Responsibilities

The FMECA SME monitors the Space Segment Contractor's Fault Management execution and identify FMECA-related risks and opportunities for inclusion in the System Risk and Opportunity Management Program. The FMECA SME performs trade studies, analyses of critical failure modes for the satellite design, parts, and system built/test in support of the systems engineering of a space system to assure critical systems meet the system life expectancy. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Support to space segments FMECA tasks
  • Review the space system developers design and FMECA analysis
  • Perform a bottoms-up, inductive analytical method at the piece-part level to model the space segments failure modes
  • Present technical and project status briefings to management and customers
The FMECA SME performs critical analysis, which is used to chart the probability of failure modes against the severity of their consequences. The result highlights failure modes with relatively high probability and severity of consequences, allowing remedial effort to be directed where it will produce the greatest value.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mathematics
  • Strong knowledge in failure modes and effects
  • Background in space system development
  • Modeling and Simulations experience
