The National Systems Group serves as the technical advisor to the Intelligence Community and its mission partners involved in the collection and distribution of national and tactical intelligence, including electronics programs, advanced technologies, ground and communications, imagery programs, and systems engineering and launch.

We are looking for a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer for Space Domain Awareness for the Survivability and Resilience Office of the Advanced Technology Division within the National Systems Group. This office provides critical subject matter expertise to assist the government in architecting, developing, and verifying resilient space and ground systems. In this role you will develop and sustain key information systems critical to the protection of national systems on orbit while identifying, elevating, and recommending new technologies and engineering techniques for current and future ground subsystems

This position requires 100% on site work with the customer in Chantilly, VA.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Monitor the Contractor development and sustainment (operations & maintenance) efforts while identifying potential risks, issues, & opportunities (RIO) to senior staff;
  • Identify impacts of Contractor-recommended software and architecture changes, and advise the government program office on alternative solutions and implementations;
  • Lead and support Aerospace-led efforts (i.e., technology assessments, studies, and trades) in candidate's areas of expertise including but not limited to new technologies, systems engineering techniques, or IT updates;
  • Lead and interface with the Aerospace engineering matrix on Aerospace-led projects involving subject matter experts;
  • Represent the program office as technical SME and/or support or lead Integrated Product Teams with program office and development Contractor personnel;
  • Plan and implement technically-sound verification and validation approaches on large, complex, software-intensive ground software system-of-systems.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for Project Engineer
  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical discipline;
  • 8 years of experience in professional engineering experience with increasing responsibilities;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Experience supporting at least one ground system development or SDA-related technical analysis project
  • Ability to communicate current technology, processes, and/or methods to the Aerospace team and customer;
  • Ability to coordinate technical activities of Aerospace teams;
  • Willing to travel [domestically/internationally] approx. 10%
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance and polygraph, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

In addition to the above, Senior Project Engineer:
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of professional engineering experience with increasing responsibilities;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small teams;
  • Hands-on knowledge of Space Domain Awareness or Battle Management, Command and Control systems.

How You Can Stand Out It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • Advanced degree in science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical discipline;
  • Significant experience in Battle Management, Command and Control of air, land, sea, or space defense systems;
  • Familiarity of satellite ground systems (acquisition, design, development, architecture, and operations) and threats to space systems;
  • Prior experience supporting systems engineering activities in the IC (especially the NRO);
  • Familiarity with government acquisition policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the traditional systems engineering Vee;
  • Experience with advanced IT capabilities, including Agile Development and DevSecOps;
  • Experience providing direct engineering support to NRO satellites or ground systems (or similarly complex system);
  • Demonstrated ability to work asynchronously with worldwide remote team members;
  • Familiarity working with Aerospace engineering matrix.
