The University of Virginia School of Law seeks a Classroom Support Technician to join the Law Information Technology (Law IT) team. The Classroom Support Technician provides excellent, courteous customer support for the technology in classroom and event spaces within the Law School. The Classroom Support Technician will also support the services of the Law IT Service Desk. Law IT is a service-oriented team that provides and supports technological resources that help further excellence in teaching, learning, research, administration, and service at the Law School.

The primary responsibility of the Classroom Support Technician will be to provide support for audio-visual technology systems and equipment in the Law School's classrooms, event spaces, and conference rooms. The Classroom Support Technician will also help staff the Law IT service desk and provide first-tier support to faculty, staff, and students. In all cases, the expectation is that support will be provided in a timely, responsive, and courteous manner.

Specific duties of this position include:
  • Ensure that audio-visual technology systems and equipment in classrooms, events spaces, and conference rooms are operational and up to date. Provide in-person support to faculty, staff, students, and guests using these systems and equipment. Respond to and resolve requests for assistance in a timely and helpful manner.
  • As needed, support LawIT personnel with programming and maintenance of audio-visual technology systems and equipment.
  • Help staff the LawIT service desk team and provide in-person and remote support to faculty, staff, and students experiencing hardware, software, cloud-based computing, and systems access issues. Will be able solve routine problems without supervisory intervention and will work collaboratively with other Law IT professionals to help troubleshoot and resolve advanced support issues.
  • Clearly document support issues, and how they were resolved, in the Law IT service desk ticketing system.
  • Provide individual and/or group instruction and training to students, faculty, and/or staff on computer technologies.
  • Follow proper policies and procedures related to secure computing, account maintenance, and procurement.
  • Assist Law IT personnel with research, evaluation, testing, and deployment of projects and services, including services that support and enhance classroom technology solutions; mobile, laptop, and desktop devices; cloud-based software and applications; and, LawIT help desk management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience. Relevant IT work experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to provide IT support to end users for a broad array of IT services, and to communicate at the appropriate technical level.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline.
  • Previous work experience in a university or school environment.

Classroom Support Technicians will be required to install, uninstall and move equipment frequently, which will require lifting such equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and stairs in order to complete jobs. Repetitive motion will be required while performing duties.

This position requires most work to be performed in person at the Law School, with the opportunity to perform a limited amount of work remotely in accordance with Law School policy.

This is a full-time University Operational and Administrative Staff position with benefits .
