The University of Virginia seeks applications for an inaugural Director of Enrollment Intelligence to build capacity for data analysis and evidence-based decision-making throughout UVA Enrollment and its four constituent units: Student Financial Services, the Office of Undergraduate Admission, the Office of the University Registrar, and the Virginia College Advising Corps. The Director, reporting to the Vice Provost for Enrollment, will be a caring, creating, collaborative, and student-centered professional. The Director will work closely, constructively, and proactively with senior leaders and colleagues in and beyond Enrollment to gather, discover, analyze, and disseminate evidence that helps the organization and its units strengthen the excellence, diversity, success, and sense of community of the student body; deepen service to students, schools, and communities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia; and advance the mission of the University.RESPONSIBILITIESThis position will:

  • Design, lead, and assess strategies to help every colleague in Enrollment gain confidence in their ability to ask critical questions and answer those questions with evidence.
  • Build capacity for action-oriented collection, visualization, and analysis of data, using widely available platforms such as Tableau, Qlik, SAS, SPSS, SQL, and Power BI.
  • Lead efforts to create statistical and other evidence-informed models that advance UVA's goals for enrollment and its strategy for admission, scholarships, financial aid, student success, and service to communities across the Commonwealth.
  • Work closely with the director of enrollment communications to make sure communications and marketing efforts are grounded in sound intelligence.
  • Monitor external research in enrollment, admission, student finances, records and registration, access and opportunity, and related fields; identify and share examples to inform decisions about strategy and operations.
  • Cultivate and maintain collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships with faculty and staff in other divisions and departments-for example, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Institutional Research and Analytics, Education and Human Development, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion-whose research or administrative interests are aligned with the interests of Enrollment.
  • In partnership with Institutional Research and Analytics, ensure accurate and effective reporting of enrollment data.
  • In consultation with senior leaders in Enrollment, develop a plan for staffing and structuring efforts to gather and use intelligence throughout the organization.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/ATTRIBUTESIn addition to previous success in business intelligence, preferably within higher education, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, and to understand and build upon the strategic and creative thinking of others.
  • Ability to inspire curiosity in colleagues and to help them learn how to gather and assess data and other evidence.
  • Empathy for students who are navigating the challenges of admission, financial aid, and enrollment, and for those who believe higher education is beyond their reach, as well as for their loved ones, teachers, counselors, and other influencers.
  • Ability to build and sustain close and collaborative relationships with colleagues, and to organize and lead them to produce top-quality and strategically effective work.
  • Exemplary communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and execute social media strategy in support of communications, working with content generated by Enrollment as well as University Communications, students, and others to reach and engage prospective students.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete them on time and on budget.

The successful candidate must have a bachelor's degree with at least three years of experience, seven years of experience is or a masters degree with five years of experience is preferred.
