Student Financial Services is seeking a motivated and adaptable software programmer to develop and support custom web-based applications. You will be part of a small team dedicated to improving processes for SFS staff, in turn strengthening the UVA community. This role will be responsible for design, coding, testing, documentation, and production support, as well as some server-side configuration.

SFS has a variety of tools utilizing JavaScript frameworks like Vue and React, supported on the back end with PHP and Python scripts that interface with MySQL databases. In addition to managing these tools, our team is always looking for new technology solutions to improve business processes through automating tasks, providing better user interfaces, and making data more accessible. A successful applicant will be comfortable gathering requirements from our users, designing data models, utilizing REST APIs, and implementing modern web design practices.

Proficiency in JavaScript and SQL is required for this role, and PHP or Python is strongly preferred. Critical thinking skills are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple tasks with strong attention to detail. Familiarity with these technologies would be a plus:

  • SAS
  • git version control

We have some flexibility in implementation of our tools and can lean into the strengths of our team, so understanding the principles of web design and data security are more important than technical skills in any one area.

Student Financial Services values diversity, equity, inclusivity, and respect. We strive to create a culture where every team member feels included and valued, and where different backgrounds, perspectives, and ideas are celebrated.

Student Financial Services is committed to the belief that diversity in all its forms is not merely a desirable complement to excellence; it is an essential component of it.
