UVA's Learning Technology Services (LTS) team is seeking an Instructional Technologist/Designer to join us in providing technical and instructional support for UVA's new central Learning Management System (LMS), UVACanvas, and other digital tools for teaching and learning.

This will be a hybrid flexible role

The selected applicant will be required to complete a background check prior to their first day of employment per university policy.

In this role, you'll be a vital resource for instructors and students, drawing upon your knowledge of Canvas and integrated tools to:
  • Analyze and address technical and functional questions;
  • Promote best practices in digital pedagogy and accessibility;
  • Lead departmental office hours and workshops;
  • Contribute to an expanding knowledge base of documentation, pro tips, case studies, and other supporting resources;
  • Collaborate with the rest of our team to build custom sites, templates, and apps inside and outside the LMS, to support courses and other academic requirements;
  • And more!

You'll also be a key member of UVA's larger instructional support community, contributing to strategic groups and projects that involve faculty, staff, and students from across UVA and other institutions, including the University Teaching and Learning Technology Committee; the Instructional Design Community of Practice; and the Canvas R1 Peers Community.

You'll bring these essential professional and personal qualities to our team:
  • A bachelor's degree and/or relevant experience, totaling at least five years of experience in higher education, educational development, and/or general instructional or other user support;
  • Outstanding communication skills across multiple mediums-from writing to speaking to presenting;
  • Familiarity and experience with the instructional aspects of LMS platforms;
  • Familiarity and experience with the application of best practices in pedagogy in digital contexts;
  • Agility to manage multiple ongoing projects simultaneously, and flexibility to move between individual and collaborative work.

Preferably, you'll bring some of these qualities as well:
  • A master's degree or other advanced degree in instructional design, instructional technology, or a related field;
  • Familiarity and experience with the Canvas LMS;
  • Familiarity and experience with other digital tools for teaching and learning, such as Gradescope, Hypothesis, Kaltura, Microsoft 365, Piazza, VoiceThread, and Zoom;
  • Familiarity and experience with the application of best practices in accessibility in digital contexts;
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency with project management applications, such as Jira.

This is a full-time position, eligible for a remote or hybrid work model. The expected salary range is $70,000-$85,000, commensurate with experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School degree or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline preferred.

Experience: At least five years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.Licensure: None

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
