Institutional Research and Analytics (IRA) seeks an Intermediate Business Intelligence Analyst for a fully benefitted position on our team. The BI Analyst will play a key role in identifying, implementing, and evaluating reporting and data solutions in support of operational, planning, decision-making, as well as compliance needs of units, utilizing the University Business Intelligence (UBI) platform as the primary reporting and analytics solution. The incumbent will provide expertise across multiple data domains and technical solutions in support of the mission of a department, with a focus on timeliness, accuracy, integrity of data, and consistency of user experience to a diverse set of stakeholders across the University.

Successful candidates will have strong SQL skills; the ability to perform effective querying involving multiple tables and subqueries; an understanding of and experience using analytical concepts and statistical techniques to include hypothesis development, designing of tests/experiments, analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and developing actionable recommendations for business units; strong problem solving, quantitative and analytical abilities; the ability to plan and manage numerous processes, people, and projects simultaneously; the ability to identify and implement ideas for continuous improvement; and excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities will include:

User Requirements, Modeling, Analysis, and Visualization (80%):

  • Engage in collaborative discussions with stakeholders in units to understand and document user requirements.
  • Apply best practices for delivering information in the most useful format while leveraging the broad functionality of the UBI toolset and data environment for each use case.
  • Apply knowledge of data structures, data modeling, and software architecture to create solutions based on user needs.
  • Analyze new metrics and reporting needs to identify data and key performance indicators needed, perform gap analysis against existing metrics and reports, and develop approaches to problem-solving while suggesting potential solutions.
  • Project manage and coordinate activity between stakeholders, developers, data warehouse team, and the UBI admin team to optimize and deliver solutions that are usable, accurate, and timely.
  • Create and maintain documentation that supports the ongoing development and use of the UBI solutions and other integrated analytical software.
  • Examine, interpret and report results of initiatives to provide guidance to management and diverse stakeholders.
  • Act as a product owner with responsibility for data domains (e.g., student data) in UBI maintaining and prioritizing the backlog of requests.
  • Prototype usable and informative reports, analytics, and dashboards by applying design and reporting best practices to visually display data to best convey the necessary information. Design and develop charts, tables, expressions, and variables as needed in QlikView and Qlik Sense or other software (e.g., Tableau) as required.
  • Coordinate and manage quality assurance activity and user acceptance testing for both new solutions and enhancements to existing solutions.

User Engagement - Support & Training (20%):
  • Assist and train end-users and other stakeholders in the use of UBI through communications channels, presentations, workshops, and personal coaching sessions.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and user support.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote best practices to ensure an outstanding user experience for stakeholders.
  • Participate in Lean process improvement activities or other projects with colleagues in other units where reporting and analytics tools may be of value.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in data structures, data modeling, and software architecture. Experience with QlikView or Qlik Sense preferred but not required.
  • Experience with SQL and performing effective querying involving multiple tables and subqueries.
  • Understanding of and experience using analytical concepts and statistical techniques: hypothesis development, designing tests/experiments, analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and developing actionable recommendations for business units.

This position is eligible for remote work flexibility.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $70,000 - $80,000 depending upon experience
