Summary

Washes dishes by using hands and commercial washers. Rinses and disposes of food from dishes. Responsible for all aspects of dish washing, mopping, stocking shelves in the refrigerators, dry food storage, chemical and paper storage rooms, and trash removal. Keeps work area clean.

Essential Functions:

Washes all dishes according to health and safety guidelines set forth by the Virginia Department of Health

Serves and sets up trays for Health Care Center food cart.

Wraps silverware.

Makes tea and coffee.

Pours juices and beverages for meals and snacks.

Gathers supplemental feedings and delivers to Nurses Station.

Serves late or holdĀ trays.

Sets up for and cleans up after special occasions.

Assists Cook in meal preparation if needed.

Cleans tray line after each meal.

Takes trays to dish room. Breaks trays down for dishwashing. Cleans area.

Scrapes plates and washes them using a mechanical dishwashing machine.

Cleans work area such as carts, toasters, hot food tables, coffee urn, dining room tables, carpet and refrigerator in work area.

Considers likes and dislikes of patient or resident.

Is courteous to residents at all times.

Sweeps area and mops floors.

Gathers and removes trash and boxes.

Shelves stock (food, paper and chemicals) as directed.

Performs any related duties that contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Department.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to be a resourceful and respectful team player with other employees. Ability to interact with residents in a friendly, professional manner. Ability to read, write and understand English in order to follow required directions. Ability to use kitchen equipment competently and safely. Ability to serve all meals in a palatable manner with appropriate garnishments. Knowledge of proper nutrition, sanitation and safety laws and standards. Knowledge and ability to practice safety measures when using all kitchen equipment. Ability to use or learn to use a computer to complete mandatory Relias training.

Education: High school diploma, equivalent or experience in lieu of either.

Job Knowledge: Basic knowledge of nutrition, principles of sanitation and food service operation. Knowledge of quality food service preparation. Food preparation experiences in nursing home, hospital, cafeteria or similar
