Small farmstead goat cheese business looking for part time farm labor. Farm ANIMAL experience required, does not have to be specific to goats but that would be a bonus. Our ideal applicant would be hardworking, detail-oriented, dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to the animals, have good critical thinking skills, and a positive attitude. Ability to make a long-term commitment to working for us is a huge benefit. Shifts can be flexible but will include early mornings and some weekends.
As we will be operating as a VDACS inspected dairy and cheese facility, strict attention to hygiene and cleaning practices is a MUST. This job is hard work and involves a lot of cleaning!
This is a small family business and the right match in terms of personality/work ethic is very important. There is the possibility for this to become a full time position for the right person as our business grows.
Must have own reliable transportation and driver's license. Must be able to move/lift 50lb bags of grain, 50lb hay bales, etc. Ability to operate tractor a plus, but we can train.
Hourly wage will be based on employee's level of experience.
Duties include:
-Help with feeding & caring for herd of 40+ goats, and some chickens. May also occasionally need to help with care of our horses at the neighboring farm so horse experience would be a plus as well.
-Care of baby goats- bottle feeding, cleaning bottles, milk handling.
-Milking goats with milk pipeline and cleaning milking equipment/milk parlor.
-General cleaning and farm maintenance- cleaning stalls/barn, repairing fencing, pasture maintenance.
-Various other farm jobs based on the season and employee's abilities.
Other things to note:
-Due to the amount of work to accomplish with a small number of people this job can sometimes be solitary, so ability to work alone responsibly is a MUST.
