FARM HELP WANTED!

Looking for full time farm work starting winter 2021?

Beautiful local 760 acre farm hiring for full time position for winter 2021. Farm is located five minutes from Cismont store in Keswick, VA (15 MINUTES east of Charlottesville and Pantops area).

Job Description:

Individual will be working under and directly with farm manager and farm manager assistant on various daily farm tasks. These tasks include but are not limited to such activities as mowing, weed eating, bush hogging, using planting equipment, spray application equipment, tree pruning, tree cleanup, land clearing, gardening, painting, light carpentry, road work, wildlife projects, turf management and general maintenance on all equipment. Employee will need to be flexible in his day-to-day activities. Responsibilities will change depending on weather and time of year.

On occasion, worker may be required to work on a weekend or after hours during the hunting season or planting season (spring/fall). Rare activities include mostly aiding landowner and guests with shuttling to stands, dragging deer and potentially cleaning/gutting and disposing of carcasses.

U.S Citizen, clean record. Looking for a healthy individual that does not abuse DRUGS OR ALCOHOL. Must go through a background check and possible drug screening. Will also be required to sign a waiver liability form saying that you are "assuming risk" or working on farm. Must have very good work ethic, trustworthy, physically capable of lifting heavy objects and doing manual labor on a daily basis. Worker needs to maintain a friendly attitude, balanced temperament and treat other workers and individuals with respect and patience. Worker needs to have the expectation that they are here to be of service and as helpful to everyone as possible. Ability to work effectively with others as a team and build strong working relationships is VITAL. Worker needs to have a can-do attitude and know when to take initiative to be helpful. Worker needs to be on time for work. Willingness to learn is essential (Nobody knows it all). Must be ok with occasionally (rarely) having to potentially gut and process a deer. During certain times of year employee may be required to help in hanging deer stands, moving rifle stands around etc. (if you don’t know how to we can teach you). Worker can’t be scared of heights or guts/blood.

General knowledge of operation, upkeep and maintenance of farm equipment is required. Farm equipment includes: 6000 series Tractor and smaller, various different bush hogs, various different mowers, planting equipment, agricultural spraying equipment (mostly herbicide and fertilizer), weed eaters, backpack blowers, chainsaws, small hand tools etc. Preference to those who can also run larger dirt moving equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, track hoes, skid steers etc

Worker will work a steady 40 hours a week and keep tract of hours. Workers are expected to maintain a regular weekly work schedule that does not to exceed 40 hours. However, on a few rare occasions flexible hours will be expected during the hunting season (Mid Oct-Early January) and possibly during the planting season (spring and fall). Work during weekend or on normal off days of Saturday and Sunday will be counted towards that individual’s 40 hour work week. As a result of working an occasional after hour or weekend, individual would be eligible to take time off during normal work hours during a different part of the week to recover those hours. Weekend work or after normal hour work is usually rare, but on occasion should be expected.

First year benefits:

-Compensation commensurate with experience. 17-19$/Hr paid in bi-weekly installments (direct deposit every other Friday) based on an annual salary.

-State and federal taxes, social security and medicare will be taken out of salary (NO 1099)

-15 days Vacation (need to notify farm manager 2 weeks minimum in advance of time off)

-Bonus at end of year for satisfactory work

-Plenty of fresh air and activity

Raise given typically on an annual basis for satisfactory work

Worker will need to pass a background check and potential drug screening. Worker will also be required to sign a release of liability form that says essentially that worker acknowledges the risk associated with job and responsibilities. Farm maintains workers compensation insurance for work related claims and takes care of employees in incidents of injury.
