The Information Security Engineering team at UVA is responsible for developing and integrating security tools in a complex, University-wide environment. We investigate, recommend, and implement a variety of enterprise security solutions, including IPSes, IDSes, Incident Response tracking, SIEM). The team also handles the middleware / integrations between data sources and other tools. This position will help implement new security tools and assist in improving integrations with existing tools. As an Information Security Engineer, you are expected to support your clients with a high degree of autonomy, though you wont be aloneyoull have a team there to help you when needed.

Duties Include:
  • Implements, configures, and manages vulnerability software to provide the ability identify, report, and mitigate the risk.
  • Ability to analyze complex information security situations involving multiple sources of information and help create solutions to address the situation.
  • Experience utilizing both Windows and Linux environments to obtain system data, logs, and status to create and maintain automation tasks.
  • Analyze and solve hard problems after reviewing business needs, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Write scripts and/or programs to automate and perform tasks to reduce user workload, (including the use of APIs to submit/retrieve data to systems and tools.)
  • Assists the Information Security team in investigating and responding to various security threats, incidents, and investigations.
  • Evaluates new and emerging security products and technologies; and serves as subject matter expert for decision making, implementation, and integration.
  • Collaborates with team members to select, test, deploy, and tune new on- premises and cloud-based technical environments that support infrastructure visibility, analysis, automation, and secure data retention.
  • Creates and maintains architectural documentation and operational procedures that describe the scope, purpose, configuration, use, and maintenance of the security engineering tools and environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong ability to communicate via written and verbal communication in both formal and casual situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle stressful situations with calm effectiveness.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma and 7 years of relevant experience to include information security experience.
  • Demonstrated success leveraging automation.
