The Application Development Team in the Deans office with the University of Virginia's School of Medicine (SOM) is seeking a Web Application Tester to join a growing team and participate in the full software development lifecycle for applications that support the SOM's education, clinical, and research missions.

The usability/web tester will provide insight into web application interface and experience design for current and future projects. The qualified candidate will work to improve web application usefulness and usability in collaboration with programmers, project managers, and stakeholders. The immediate focus of the position will be on helping the team replenish/replace all of our student-facing applications (starting with online testing) and improve/augment our Work Design system.

Duties Include:
  • Generating storyboard, wireframes, and prototypes as needed.
  • Use knowledge of programming and server software operations to develop basic/routine programs designed to enhance user appeal and utility as well as the site's overall functionality.
  • Maintaining in-depth knowledge and understanding of different research methodologies and data analysis techniques in regard to usability.
  • Participating in basic stress or performance testing targeting usability.
  • Create web front-end user interfaces to new or existing databases to make business applications web-accessible.
  • Design, develop, deploy, maintain and troubleshoot basic/routine Internet-based applications for University organizations.
  • Integrate existing and new Internet-based applications with University-controlled and foreign resources using various integration strategies and technologies.
  • Responsible for requirements gathering and articulation of user interface issues, including the development of page/site prototypes.
  • Provide tier-1 application support and training where necessary.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements (only need one of the below options):

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline and less than one year of experience.

2. Associate's degree and 2 years of relevant experience developing web applications, designing websites, or testing websites for usability in either an educational or professional setting.

3. High school diploma and 4 years of relevant experience developing web applications, designing websites, or testing websites for usability in either an educational or professional setting.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $58,000 - $65,000 depending upon relevant education and experience.
