1.0 POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:The purpose of the position of Engineering Technician is to execute work generated by the engineering and shop departments. The primary functions include:Assemble downcomer wireways and ship to shore electrical cable to customer specificationsIdentify appropriate parts for systemsDevelop engineered solutions to customer needsAssemble electrical panels per wiring diagramsPerform field service call2.0 BASIC FUNCTIONS:The basic function of Engineering Technician is to assemble downcomer wireways and ship to shore electrical cable to customer specifications.Engineering Technician is required to assist the panel shop in its day-to-day demands including the assembling of electrical panels from wiring diagrams and CAD drawings.Engineering Technician shall work closely with Engineering and Shop personnel to accomplish field service requirements.Engineering Technician is responsible for assisting customers with product and system solutions both on the phone and in person.Engineering Technician will perform various routine, repetitive operations including simple layout and assembly of component parts required to produce downcomer wireways.3.0 REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:Education:Required: High School diploma.Preferred: Electrician technical trade schooling. Experience:A minimum of two years’ experience in product assembly, mechanical or utility construction, or as an electrical technician or electrician with an electrical supply industry or a similar industry. Licenses/Certification:Valid VA Driver’s License requiredPreferred: Electrician’s Journeyman’s License Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:The Engineering Technician must have poise, be articulate, self-assured, and personable. This person should have superior communication skills, both written and verbal.Knowledge of the electrical panels and wiring diagrams and associated products is required. In addition, a working knowledge of electrical automation systems and products is essential to development and growth.Computer skills required include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and a basic knowledge of all computer programs needed to perform the functions within the engineering department.Electrical equipment skills needed include the use of various testing equipment, meters, and o-scope. The operation of hand tools, electrical and air tools are a requirement of this position. Mechanical skills needed include metal work, drilling, tapping, and mounting of electrical components within panels. Work from verbal or written instructions to assemble downcomer wireways sections using ordinary, or special hand or powered tools.Use layout table and templates to assemble downcomer wireway sections. Physical:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Body Positions: Regularly required sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Prolonged periods of standing over a work bench in the shop is required.Body Movements: The employee must have a full range of body movements including the full use of both hands and fingers, handle, grasp and feel objects, computer equipment and peripherals, and bending, reaching, and crouching. Walking up and down stairs is essential. Body Senses:Must have command of the senses of sight, hearing, touch, and smell. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. The vision requirements include sufficient ability to shift in focus from the computer screens to close forms and back routinely. Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone. Must have full command of all senses needed to operate a motor vehicle.Strength:Lifting, carrying, and handling up to 50 pounds is required. Sound judgment should always be used before lifting any object. Mental:Must be able to read and write English well enough to read and prepare reports, and communicate effectively with all concerned or related to the business. Must be capable of applying sound business judgement to all decisions.Mathematical abilities at the level required to understand complex concepts including trigonometry, percentages, ratios, exponents, and logarithms are required. Must have a high mechanical aptitude.Must be logical. Must be able to make decisions based on facts and be able to differentiate between fact, fiction, and emotions.Success Factors:This position requires personal interaction with employees, customers and vendors. This position requires the ability to perceive the needs of the customers through conversational interaction. The Engineering Technician must translate the requests of our customers into solutions. The Engineering Technician must be able to make most people feel comfortable in his/her presence and be people and results oriented. This is a dynamic position; it requires an individual who is goal oriented and is committed to the company’s products and services. This person must be self-motivated and goal oriented. Working Conditions:This position will be working primarily indoors in a warehouse. Working in an office environment will also be required during each workday. Both of these environments have climate variances, which are primarily seasonal in nature. From the movement between office and warehouse, varying temperatures will be encountered. The noise level will vary based upon location. The range is from low (office environment) to high (manufacturer’s plant). The requirements of field service may require prolonged exposure to the outdoors and the variety of temperatures and conditions this may bring.4.0 AUTHORITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY Authority:Engineering Technician has the full authority to accomplish responsibilities, duties, goals, and objectives that have been established for this position as directed by the ESG Lead. Accountability:The Engineering Technician is accountable to the ESG Lead for the accomplishment of all goals assigned to the position. This individual is accountable for maintaining the standards of performance for the company as a whole and the ethical and prudent operation the engineering and shop departments.The Engineering Technician reports directly to the Engineering Manager. 5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESThe responsibilities and duties of the Engineering Technician consist of, but are not limited to the following: Perform field service calls as directed by the ESG Lead. Assist the shop in the assembly of electrical panels per specifications and drawings supplied. Develop effective working relationships with customers and vendors. Wire panel components in accordance with supplied drawings. Adhere to all quality, safety, and corporate policies and procedures of Jo-Kell Inc. in the performance of this position. Perform electrical tests on panels to ensure proper operation. Maintain accurate records of shop hours when working in the panel shop. Represent Jo-Kell Inc. in a positive manner, showing a quality attitude through an honest and professional work ethic. Perform any and all other functions as delegated by the ESG Supervisor. Deliver products to customers.
