The Pharmacist is responsible for providing prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals as needed for adequate patient care according to professional standards and practices. Additionally, the Pharmacist monitors the drug therapy of patients, and advises/consults patients and families, as well as medical and nursing staff concerning drug therapy.Essential Duties and Responsibilities These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
Receive and transcribe prescription drug orders and file them in the correct location
Review written prescriptions to ensure that the prescription does not result in overdose, toxicity, or other hazards if filled as prescribed
Package and label pharmaceuticals following the established policies and procedures
Advise and consult with patients and families regarding medication use, dangers, side effects, and drug composition as requested
Check supplies of drugs, pharmaceuticals, and IV admixtures regularly, keeping supervisor informed of stock discrepancies or needs
Dispense and maintain appropriate records for controlled drugs
Fill patient prescriptions as ordered
Check and fill paramedic drug and IV boxes regularly
Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental, and infection control protocols
Keep abreast of Pharmacy tends and techniques to ensure quality care is provided to patients of all ages
Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services
Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care
Education and Experience Minimum Required Education: Bachelors Degree in PharmacyExperience: Inpatient pharmacy experience is preferredCertificates, Licenses, Registrations Applicant must be licensed to work as a Pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
