Northrop Grumman Mission Systems has an immediate need for an experienced Sr. Principal, Systems Engineer to serve as the Middleware Engineering, and data analytic engineering SME. This position will provide the technical guidance and direction to design the modular middleware baselines to include databases, web services, and applications. This position is responsible for the development and delivery of the modular enterprise architecture, engineering design, and implementation plan that comprises of Analytic Framework, Data Layer, ETL Layer, and Application services. The Systems Engineer in this position will introduce and champion the DevOps concept for the overall organization. This position will be based in Fairfax, VA. The selected individual will play a critical role in the development and delivery of the organization's overall cloud adoption and migration efforts. The primary focus of this position is to provide Systems Engineering expertise in the following areas: Application standardization, Middleware engineering, Data Layer, ETL Layer, and DevOps.
  • Familiarization with data engineering, analytic framework development, and ETL development would be helpful in this role, although not a primary focus.
  • The selected candidate will need to have diverse IT background, and strong hands-on technical experience.
  • Ability to design a flexible solution to support infrastructure hosting workloads on premises and on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Know how to craft and drive good requirements and specifications documentation.
  • The selected individual will be expected to quickly self-learn new technologies, work in a team environment, and mentor others as needed.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Top Secret with SCI and Polygraph clearance
  • Bachelors' degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, System Engineering, Business or related discipline and a minimum of 9 years related experience. 7 with a Masters' Degree. 4 years of relevant work experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Experience working and integrating open source frameworks/products
  • Understanding of middleware engineering (e.g. Oracle, MySQL, Kafka, Postgres, SQL Servers, Apache, Tomcat).
  • Engineering experience in emerging technologies such as Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, DevOps, Data Analytics & Visualization, and Micro services
  • Knowledge of the Linux operating system.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working and integrating open source frameworks/products, as well as experience deploying various open source packages and/or application stacks into environments with, multi-core, multithreaded, and distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated experience using AWS Command Line (AWSCLI), Amazon Machine Images (AMI), Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Simple Storage Service (S3), Elastic Block Storage (EBS), Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), or CloudWatch.
  • Demonstrated on-the-job experience and/or excellent understanding of: Software development programming languages (e.g. Python, Shell, CIC, Java, JavaScript, PERL, Pentaho Data Integration, Logstashk, Kibana,Rstudio, Rtools, Nifi, CloverETL).
  • Development of middleware baselines that can support on premises or cloud environments. (e.g. Oracle,MySQL, Kafka, Postgres, SQL Servers, Apache, Tomcat, uS).
  • Information security practices (e.g. cryptography, privilege separation, RBAC, INFO SEC, Auditing, Patching, Security Benchmark Compliance, and OS hardening).
  • Infrastructure principles: fault tolerance, availability, scalability, continuous monitoring, and recovery. Underlying storage for Linux (LVM), storage network protocols (e.g. NAS, NFS, CIFS, etc.), and clustered or pooled virtualization concepts from leading platforms (e.g. XenServer, HyperV, VMware, etc.).
  • Proactive monitoring concepts, including experience configuring and deploying Network and systems monitoring, SNMP, Relational Databases (e.g. Ganglia, Nagios, Zenoss, Splunk, SolarWinds, NoSQL and Caching Layers such as Memcache etc.).
