Job Summary

Job Summary

As a Maintenance Operator Trainee, you will be required to operate and maintain power station equipment.

This includes:

1) Inspecting, operating and monitoring equipment used in the production of electricity;

2) Performing daily routine operations;

3) Isolating/tagging equipment for maintenance;

4) Valve operations;

5) Making entries into computer-based logbooks;

6) Performing maintenance on major industrial equipment such as pumps, turbines, and power station mechanical equipment;

7) Performing maintenance on batteries, motors, switchgear, motor operated valves, and other power station electrical equipment.

You will be placed in a 56-month standardized skills development program.

The starting pay rate is $22.69 per hour.

Day shifts and rotating 12-hour shifts will be available. Successful candidates must be available to travel and train in Richmond, Virginia for up to nine (9) week periods of time.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum of 3 + years experience in operating and maintaining major industrial equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, turbines and electrical switchgear in an industrial environment (e.g. shipyard, military, manufacturing, or power station)

Strongly preferred: 1) Journeyman craftsman experience; and/or 2) Candidates who have power plant/power generation operational or maintenance experience.

Education Requirements

Education Required: Preferred: Candidates with Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.

Required: High School diploma or GED

Working Conditions: This position requires good physical ability and agility. The job requires an incumbent, 75% of the time, to stand, sit, walk, carry, bend, crawl, reach, squat, and climb to include: ladders, poles, and stairs. Requires ability to push/pull with arms, legs, and body. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The job requires an incumbent, 75% of the time, to be exposed to conditions such as: heat, cold, outdoors, operating machinery, loud noises, dust, grease, oil, and fumes. The job incumbent may be required to climb tall smoke stacks and/or towers wearing appropriate safety gear.
