Job Summary

Dominion Energy is one of the industry leading utilities for performing full-scope in-house safety analyses and probabilistic risk assessments in support of safe operation of its pressurized water reactors and is seeking an intern for the summer of 2023. The Nuclear Safety Analysis (NSA) and Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) teams analyze nuclear power plant systems to understand how they will perform in the event of an accident. This ensures that emergency systems are always ready to keep the reactors safe and helps to optimize decision making related to maintaining nuclear safety. Successful applicants for this position will be placed in either the NSA or PRA group based on applicant interest, relevant experience, and completed coursework.

Job Responsibilities: • Work with an experienced team of engineers to establish and communicate bounding conditions of safe operation for the reactor core, reactor coolant system, balance of plant, containment systems, engineered safeguards, and auxiliary equipment of the Dominion Energy nuclear units. • Work with an experienced team of engineers to support operation in nominal and off-nominal plant configurations. • Work with an experienced team of engineers to modify safety analyses or risk assessments in support of plant design changes or fuel changes. • Participate in ongoing training and continuous improvement activities to maintain and enhance our role in supporting safe and efficient plant operation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

• Ability to effectively operate a personal computer and workstation computer, including standard Microsoft applications and Linux. Programming skills are desirable. • Ability to define problems, collect information, evaluate data, draw valid conclusions, and develop solutions in a time-critical environment. • Ability to maintain a professional orientation, communicate effectively in both written and oral forms, and work effectively in teams and independently under own initiative.

Education Requirements

Nuclear Engineering (NSA/PRA), Mechanical Engineering (PRA), Electrical Engineering (PRA) from ABET accredited institution with graduation date of December 2023 or later.
