Facebook is seeking a Generator Subject Matter Expert to join our Data Center Facility Operations team. Our data centers serve as the foundation upon which our software operates to meet the demands of our customers. The Generator Specialist will be a part of the facility operations team and will be responsible for being the emergency generator system operations expert. The candidate will need to be experienced in all aspects of generator theory, operations and maintenance (electrical, mechanical and controls) and have a working knowledge of electrical distribution and general mechanical systems.

  • Serve as technical/consultative resource for Emergency Generators and supporting equipment, with an emphasis on practical/field application
  • Support troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of emergency generators
  • Assist in authoring processes and procedures
  • Analyze data, develop metrics, and identify trends related to reliability. Contribute to generator maintenance and repair strategy based on data
  • On-site lead for root cause analysis activities in area of expertise
  • Provide training to critical facility engineers on emergency generators and supporting equipment
  • Manage vendor relationships, scheduling, and work scope
  • Supervise and validate vendor-performed activities (startup, commissioning, maintenance, etc.)
  • Perform any additional services needed to meet the requirements of the facility in support of maintenance functions
  • Travel to other data center regions will be required
  • Other duties as required to support the operation of Facebook data centers

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 6+ years of experience as a trade or manufacturer generator technician, or 6+ years of generator experience in critical operations
  • Knowledge of power generation and transfer systems
  • Knowledge of diesel fuel system components and fuel quality management
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience interpreting blueprints/CAD drawings

  • 6+ years of experience in a data center or other critical environment (pharma, clean room, medical, power production, etc.)
  • Experience managing vendor contracts
