The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Maritime Undersea Mid-Level Software Architect located in Herndon, VA or remote who is highly motivated and excited to work in a multi-disciplined, collaborative engineering environment to design, architect, and implement software for advanced systems in development.

The position is for our Integrated Missions portfolio, and may provide the occasional opportunity to travel to accomplish knowledge transfer and collaboration with the technical team at each site. If you are an experienced, energetic Software Engineer with good communication skills (oral and written) and a desire to work in a dynamic environment with a broad range of engineers from many skill areas, then this opportunity is for you.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to rearchitecture of existing software capabilities under Unmanned Maritime Autonomy Architecture (UMAA)
  • Develops and maintains code and integrates software components into a fully functional embedded software system
  • Supports software research and development projects
  • Assists with documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems
  • Assists with test procedures and documenting test results
  • Works hands-on with system hardware to develop interfaces and associated documentation
  • Self-motivated with ability to work in team environment
  • Design and write clean, extensible and scalable code leveraging industry best practices
  • Perform code reviews and provide feedback on code quality and best practices
  • Develop documentation and design materials, and recommend best design practices
  • Take responsibility for technical problem solving, creatively meeting product objectives, and developing best practices
  • Use responsive design to provide an optimal experience across all devices
  • Create rich, interactive user-experiences with modern technologies with a focus on performance, scalability, security and maintainability

This position has been identified as a virtual opportunity and does not require applicants to live in Herndon, VA United States.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • Experience in Java or C for object-oriented programming
  • Experience with microservice architecture
  • Experience with Unmanned Maritime Autonomy Architecture (UMAA)

Desired Qualifications (Preferred Skills/Experience):
  • Experience with Agile software development
  • Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between
  • Experience with industry standard software development toolsets such as the Atlassian suite, Git, Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift, etc.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Travel: 10%
