Maxar is looking for a Senior Staff software engineer to join our team based in Herndon, VA. We have amazing talent in other areas of the development stack, and we need someone on the backend to help us bring our workflow to life.

Your Project: Our project develops a cloud-based mission support system focused on collecting data to provide near real-time analytic insights to end-users while continuously evolving analytics to address dynamic threats.

We are seeking a Senior/Staff Software Engineer to join our team to support this critical and unique system. The candidate will support developing the system using agile methodologies implementing solutions using software architecture and design patterns, continuous testing (CT), and CI/CD concepts to enable compliant rapid secure development, deployment, and operation of this unique system. What you'll do day-to-day (with your colleagues):
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and enhance capabilities to support data streaming analytics systems.
  • Perform analysis, architecture, and design on new technologies to support the existing system.
  • Ensure system capabilities conform to the definition of done (DoD).
  • Spearhead the development of system capabilities and artifacts following agile methodologies.
  • Collaborate with agile teams on applying both Agile (i.e., Scrum) and Extreme Programming (XP) principles and methodologies.
  • Prototype solutions and refine based on testing and performance feedback.
  • Support the continuous integration/delivery/deployment (CI/CD/CT) of system.
  • Remediate identified software vulnerabilities.
  • Integrate capabilities and enhancements into the existing system.
  • Profile, diagnose, and address issues with system performance.
  • Lead junior/mid software engineering on various tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements:
  • Must be a U.S citizen with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI w/ CI Poly and Agency-Specific Suitability.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, systems engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience (8 years with an MS degree, 5 years with a Ph.D.).
  • 5+ Experience in designing and developing distributed systems with Java.
  • 5+ Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodology and XP practices.
  • Experience in full-stack development.
  • Experience with cloud technologies and Linux platforms.
  • Experience with relational database systems.
  • Experience with Platform as a Service (PaaS) or Open Container Initiative (OCI) containerization technologies (i.e., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of big-data technologies such as (e.g., Apache Spark, Hadoop/MapReduce/Hive).
  • Ability to work in a geographically dispersed, collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active TS/SCI.
  • Experience with 12 Factor principles.
  • Experience with various kinds of APIs and knowledge on when to use them.
  • Experience with mentoring junior/mid-level engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in working with data streaming technologies (i.e., NiFi, Kafka, Apache Spark).
  • Experience with distributed scalable Big Data Store (NoSQL) such as HBase, as well as experience with the MapReduce programming model, the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS).
  • Experience with PostgreSQL database.
  • Experience in development using Python.
  • Current Security+ certification.
  • Experience with developing Spatio-temporal streaming analytics.
