organization's global and/or regional space weather products and
services. Devises methods, techniques, and procedures to manage and
track user requirements/requests for space weather products,

Ensures standardized meteorological support for Air Force, Army,

Utilizing professional knowledge of meteorology, directs project
teams in the development of new products and/or technical
capabilities to support user requirements.
Develops, coordinates, and maintains Memoranda of Agreement
(MOAs), Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), and Interagency
Support Agreements (ISAs) between the organization and external
agencies for the exchange of data, products, and services.
Documents user satisfaction surveys and correspondence regarding
quality and effectiveness of organization space weather products
and services.
Applies in-depth, expert knowledge of AFW systems and of the
functions and capabilities of the organization?s divisions,
branches, sections, and/or geographically separated units to
respond to user requests for information.

Required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty
station on military or commercial aircraft to support the
mission. Work may include travel within and outside the
continental United States (CONUS).
May be required to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays
due to heavy workload, conflicting priorities, insufficient
information, and tight time constraints.
Skill in using weather computers/software programs and
experience with standard Air Force Weather systems are highly
desired.
This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing
Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug
Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and
periodic short notice drug testing.

QualificationsIn order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience
requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM)
Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional
and Scientific Positions, to include the Individual Occupational
Requirements (IOR) for the GS-1340, METEOROLOGIST. Please click here

Degree: meteorology, atmospheric science, or other natural
science major that included:
1. At least 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of credit in
meteorology/atmospheric science including a minimum of:
1. Six semester hours of atmospheric dynamics and
thermodynamics;()
2. Six semester hours of analysis and prediction of weather
systems (synoptic/mesoscale);
3. Three semester hours of physical meteorology; and
4. Two semester hours of remote sensing of the atmosphere
and/or instrumentation.
2. Six semester hours of physics, with at least one course that
includes laboratory sessions.()
3. Three semester hours of ordinary differential equations.()
4. At least nine semester hours of course work appropriate for a
physical science major in any combination of three or more of
the following: physical hydrology, statistics, chemistry,
physical oceanography, physical climatology, radiative transfer,
aeronomy, advanced thermodynamics, advanced electricity and
magnetism, light and optics, and computer science.OR
Combination of education and experience course work as shown
in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience for
GS-1340-13 which includes analyzing terrestrial and space weather
data; applying in-depth meteorological knowledge and weather
operations experience; consolidating relevant reviews of current
meteorological literature on advanced observing / forecasting
techniques; investigating emerging technologies related to numerical
weather prediction, satellite, and remote sensing; leading or
participating in evaluation, development and fielding of new
mathematical, statistical, and computation methodology; providing
technical expertise in meteorological instrumentation, weather
observing, weather and hydrological forecasting, and environmental
modeling. Note: You must submit a copy of official transcripts. This
definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at
the GS-12 grade/level or equivalent position in the federal
service.FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS)
POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable
time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at
the GS-12 level. is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements
for the GS-13. TIG applies if you are in a current position or held
a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will
be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills,
abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Expert knowledge of professional space weather concepts,
principles, techniques, and practices, including space weather
observation, forecasting, communications, meteorological equipment,
and support procedures in order to conceive, design, and develop new
space weather products and services to meet a variety of user
requirements.
2. Expert knowledge of established space weather methods and
procedures to formulate and recommend solutions and/or modifications
to standard practices, processes, or techniques in order to resolve
complex issues or adapt existing strategies to meet unusual needs,
special demands, and/or determine feasible solutions to meet
requirements.
3. Expert knowledge of advanced space weather theories, concepts,
principles, and processes to develop and validate new requirements,
technical approaches, product proposals, etc., to improve customer
support, as well as knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative
methods to analyze and measure user satisfaction and trend data.
4. Knowledge of space weather and meteorological policies,
organization capabilities, and in-depth understanding of available
programs and user requirements to recommend projects and
develop/manage agreements.
5. Ability to coordinate diverse efforts to achieve required
milestones, including the ability to direct and coordinate the
technical efforts of multiple project teams consisting of
professionals from multiple vocations. Routinely interact with
senior leaders and other experts across a wide variety of technical
fields.
6. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical
accuracy, both orally and in writing.PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act Chapter 21 of Title 5,
United States Code (U.S.C.), Section 2108a, requires Federal
agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled
veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, at the time
they apply for a Federal job, a "certification" of active service in
lieu of a DD-214, assuming the service member is otherwise eligible.
A "certification" letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate
military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service
