Whether a member of our engineering or architecture teams, Distinguished Engineers are individual contributors expected to solve problems in a fast-paced, collaborative, and iterative delivery environment. In order to meet these demands, candidates should be influential engineering leaders with deep technology expertise, and a collaborative style that brings others into the decision-making process. Distinguished Engineers will significantly impact the Tech agenda within their organization and devise clear roadmaps to deliver next generation technology solutions across organizational boundaries.

This role will specifically be helping to solve problems around open source usage, how we add automation to the SDLC, and in building Compliance-as-Code solutions. This person will serve as a part of our open source program office building and creating proof of concepts as well as serving as an advisor and influencer to our tech organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership, evaluation and recommendations for controls and new technologies that can be used to advance new features and capabilities
  • Leverage sound judgment and problem solving to tackle some of Capital One's most critical problems and connect the dots to broader implications of the work
  • Provide technical guidance around automation of our SDLC, construction of an SDLC framework, and explore/guide Controls as Code across enterprise efforts
  • Work with fellow Distinguished Engineers in the technical implementation of controls for Open Source according to policies set by the Open Source Office
  • Build awareness, increase knowledge and drive adoption of modern technologies and architecture patterns, sharing customer and engineering benefits to gain buy-in around Open Source and our SDLC
  • Strike the right balance between lending expertise and providing an inclusive environment where others' ideas can be heard and championed; leverage expertise to grow skills in the broader Capital One team
  • Promote a culture of engineering excellence and being well-managed, using opportunities to reuse and innersource solutions where possible
  • Effectively communicate with and influence key stakeholders across the enterprise, at all levels of the organization
  • Operate as a trusted advisor for application architecture, platform or capability domain, helping to shape use cases and integrate into overall target domain architecture working as a trusted partners with enterprise architecture
  • Operate as a trusted advisor for a specific technology, platform or capability domain, helping to shape use cases and implementation in an integrated manner
  • Lead the way in creating next-generation talent for Tech, mentoring internal talent and actively recruiting external talent to bolster Capital One's Tech talent

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 years of experience in Python, JavaScript, Java, or NodeJS
  • At least 3 years of experience with cloud native development
  • At least 2 years of experience with Compliance-as-Code or Controls-as-Code

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters' Degree
  • 9+ years of experience in Python, JavaScript, Java, or NodeJS
  • 4+ years of experience with AWS
  • 4+ years of experience with Compliance-as-Code
  • 3+ years of experience working in an Open Source Program Office
