Director of Software Engineering- Risk Management and Compliance

We are attempting something unique and unprecedented at Capital One that will truly transform our risk management and compliance domains. Given our bold agenda, we are seeking a Director of Software Engineering to work in our Risk Management Technology area to lead the innovation and delivery of technology solutions. In this role, you will lead the AML Investigations team, building the seamless user experience and platform for our investigators to find and report suspicious activity reports to law enforcement (eg money laundering, human trafficking, and other ilicit activities). Our transformational platform aims to make those investigations faster, efficient, and effective with a super high NPS score

We need an engineering leader who is able to inspire others to think differently to deliver technology solutions that will re-imagine risk management and compliance product experiences. This individual must be a motivating technologist who can architect & build solutions leveraging AWS, be well-managed with cybersecurity, and support day-to-day operations

Additionally this individual will build technology solutions that will assist the organization on its continued journey to Transformation Risk Management with Technology.

This leader will be responsible for full stack engineering teams. Success in the role requires an innovative mind, exceptional people leadership skills, a proven track record of delivering next generation software and data products, rigorous analytical skills, and a passion for creating amazing technology based product experiences.

You will:
  • Lead, manage, and grow/develop direct reports and multiple teams of product focused software engineers
  • Embrace and incubate emerging technology and open source products across all platforms in our AWS environment
  • Work to modernize our existing tech stacks and data platforms
  • Collaborate with internal teams to build scalable, resilient applications with opportunities for automation and machine learning
  • Partner with architects, product managers, business leaders, data professionals, and software & data engineers to drive the implementation of new applications
  • Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across full-stack development tools and technologies.
  • Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments and provide operational support for the applications.
  • Conduct design and code review to ensure compliance with technology and cyber security standards
  • Develop and manage an emerging tech program focused on compliance by leading teams to deliver, enhance, and operate solutions and drive innovation and integration
  • Provide director level technical consulting to our business and engineering partners
  • Develop operational support processes to ensure tracking service level agreements, assessing security risks and maintaining, testing and auditing existing systems. Ensure compliance to corporate policies and standards.
  • Manage budget forecasts and capital and operational expenditures

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 years of experience in software engineering
  • At least 5 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • 10+ years of experience in software or data engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in information technology systems and infrastructure
  • 10+ years of experience managing software and data engineering teams
  • 5+ years of experience with AWS and Kafka
  • 5+ Years of experience with Java, Angular, Kafka, Go or Python
  • 5+ years of experience building risk management or compliance focused solutions
