Why You'll Love This Job: Business Unit Description The Technology Research and Innovation (TRI) department drives external and internal innovation through strategic thought leadership, enterprise-wide advocacy, collaborative sponsorship and a focus on execution. TRI leadership works with senior leadership to identify business and technology challenges and drive creative solutions. Scope of responsibilities include: technology partnership with internal facing business service innovation initiatives, partnership with internal technology leadership to drive internal innovation initiatives in support of DTCC's innovation leadership. Projects include research of markets and technologies, rapid execution of proof of concepts and prototypes and data hypothesis testing. The goal of the department is to lead innovation efforts, as well as support a culture of innovation across DTCC. Position Summary DTCC has created a dedicated innovation department within TRI, the Internal Technology Research & Innovation (NiTRO) group to focus on strategic innovation, in support of both our external client facing business services as well as developing our internal enterprise capabilities. This position will provide innovation technology expertise and guidance for our internal, enterprise capabilities. This role will have responsibility for working with NiTRO leadership to identify business opportunities, researching new technologies and developing new capabilities, architectures, and technology structures to serve those opportunities, and ensuring alignment of the technology capabilities with the department strategy. Responsible for providing leadership, technical and analytical skills throughout the innovation process. Proactively engages IT leadership and SMEs to determine architectural needs, workflow and tooling suggestions and address those needs during the research and experimentation process. In collaboration with other ITA and Federated Architects, works with Application Development, Infrastructure, and Product Management during the various innovation phases to ensure that the resulting recommendations meet the needs of the IT organization both for innovation and eventual production deployments. Conducts research and understands industry trends and events with regards to technology and can understand and evaluate the use of automated tools and utilities in support of DTCC's enterprise strategy. Candidate must possess expertise in current and emerging technology and be following with high curiosity new technology trends. Candidate must also be able to easily and clearly articulate technology concepts in lay terms. The candidate must have strong leadership and collaboration skills, very strong communication skills, and proven ability to execute on innovation concepts. Candidate must be willing to challenge the status quo, with appropriate diplomacy, to advance new ways of thinking about solutions to business and technology. Your Primary Responsibilities:
  • Experience partnering with others in their enterprise and/or with external partners, to execute on innovative opportunities
  • Strong ability to communicate ideas in speech and in creating writing/content to socialize ideas, educate internal staff and external clients/regulators/industry on new ideas and win hearts and minds
  • Have an entrepreneurial spirit, are a self-starter, and an analytical problem solver - startup experience a plus
  • Enjoy making difficult things happen and passionate about solving challenges along the way through technology
  • Demonstrable critical thinking skills, ability to accurately analyze technical information and make data-driven decisions
  • Be passionate and persistent about advocating innovative ideas, concepts and models that may go against existing legacy models and traditional legacy wisdom when those innovative/alternative ideas, concepts and models are better aligned with strategy
  • Experience understanding the requirements and implications of a (very) strong control environment
  • Demonstrated track record of applying technology to solve business problems and a passion for tinkering with new technology
  • Willingness to dig into the details to understand the technology, even jumping in to assist in a POC
  • Combination of excellent leadership/management, technology, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Provides thought leadership and direction in identifying APIs, Common Components, and Shared Services
  • Maintains understanding of existing DTCC applications and technology solutions to ensure innovation solutions can co-exist within the current DTCC technology landscape
  • Maintains understanding of emerging architecture concepts and methods and associated technology trends
  • Conducts presentations and education on new technology concepts and advancements
  • Leads and/or collaborates in working groups of subject matter experts for definition and review of architectural standards and guidelines
  • Shares DTCC's architectural vision with key stakeholders and ensuring the innovation priorities align with the firm's strategic goals
  • Contributes to the vision, mission and objectives of the department
  • Awareness of security and privacy risks when conducting research and experimentation
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies and industry groups
  • Ensure proper disciplines and controls within the IT environment, as evidenced by strong audits and exams
  • Serve as a "Change Agent" who brings a sense of urgency and can mobilize resources and execute initiatives on time
  • Understand how technology works, bring a passion for technology, know the questions to ask, and be able dig into the details
  • Develop a strong partnership with business line stakeholders, IT members, and the operations team and various SMEs; understand the business/process making sure the technology delivery is seamless
  • Communicate technical issues to a non-tech audience and be an effective bridge across business and technology
  • ffectively plan and track multiple large and/or complex projects and communicate status to management and project teams; identify problem areas and alternative solutions

Sound Like You?
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 7+ years of hands-on development experience in various tech stacks

Additional Qualifications

  • Proven experience in driving innovation technology projects; experience building and delivering solutions with enterprise-class capabilities, including: security, scale, reliability, and resiliency
  • Prior Financial Services industry experience would be considered a plus but is not required
  • Strong analytical skills, with ability to collect, absorb, and analyze information quickly and independently
  • Proven ability to lead through ambiguity while partnering across organizations
  • Executive communication (verbal and written) skills and an ability to communicate complex technical information in simpler terms
  • Strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Highly motivated, with the ability to take initiative, set priorities and perform tasks with minimal guidance
  • Experience in influencing leadership, business and technical stakeholders, and peer groups, while driving enterprise-scale portfolios or programs in large organizations
  • Experience leading engineering and IT teams that are distributed and remote
  • Experience building excellent processes and workflows thatadapt to scale
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Experience with multiple programming languages preferred
  • Cloud development experience preferred
  • Experience in emerging technology and frameworks including the areas of low code / no code, Micro UI, data analytics & PEC, identity and access management, DLT, digital assets, martech stack, AI / ML, NLP / NLU experience desired
