ECS is seeking a Data Engineer/Applied Technology Analyst (ATA) to work in our Fairfax, VA office. This position is responsible for collaboratively supporting a project team which is responsible for managing an Artificial Intelligence initiative. This position is primarily responsible for supporting a DoD entity focusing on data collection and autonomous aircraft project which includes remotely sensed data, computer vision enabled features, very large datasets, and cloud solutions. As a Data Engineer/Applied Technology Analyst (ATA) you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of systems that depend on data, ensuring data is properly processed and securely transferred to its appropriate location, in a timely manner. Processing data will include managing, manipulating, storing, and parsing data in a data pipeline for variety of computer vision and other AI algorithms. You will also support maintenance of applications and tools that reside on these systems such as upgrades, patches, configuration changes, etc. The work is performed in a multidisciplinary team environment using agile methodologies. The candidate we seek must be highly motivated and enthusiastic about implementing new technologies and learning about new data in a small team environment where deadlines are important to national security. Responsible for:
  • Work closely with data engineers and architects to engineer ETL solutions to prepare raw data for ingest into machine learning environments for algorithm training, tuning and evaluation.
  • Design, develop and maintain data services and/or pipelines as part of an Agile/Scrum team.
  • Code, test and implement ETL logic.
  • Support continuous process automation for data ingest.
  • Support the development and integration of ML algorithms for testing and operational deployment.
  • Perform data analysis to assist in decision-making.
  • Work with program management and engineers to implement and document complex and evolving requirements.
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously with evolving requirements and deadlines.
  • Help cultivate an environment that promotes customer service excellence, innovation, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Ability to learn new tools and techniques in support of data management.

Required Skills:
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must possess an Active Secret Clearance; ability to obtain a Top-Secret Clearance with SCI preferred.
  • Current or pursuing a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Data Science, Math, Finance, Statistics, Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or an equivalent field.
  • A strong background in computer technology is necessary, including knowledge of data science, programming languages, and MS Office products.
  • 1-2 years of programming experience, preference for python.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally while demonstrating technical expertise (fluency in English is required).
  • Autonomous self-starter with a passion for analytics and problem solving.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking ability.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas to and interact with customers, management, and peers with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders in the customer space and managing competing priorities.
  • Familiarity with Cross Domain Solutions and transferring data across various classification boundaries.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the system security design process, defense-in-depth/breadth, engineering lifecycle, information domains, principles of IA (confidentiality, integrity, non-repudiation, availability, access control), and security testing.
  • Proficient parsing / ETL-ing data into a variety of formats for integration into data pipelines.
  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on Linux experience.
  • Proficiency with Python, Linux shell and scripting languages.
  • Technical proficiency with transforming structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Excellent communication, and presentation skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate across all levels of the organization and communicate technical terms to non-technical audiences with an impeccable attention for detail.

Desired Skills:
  • Top-Secret Clearance with SCI preferred.
  • Experience with programming and/or scripting: Python, R, SQL.
  • 2+ years' experience with Linux.
  • Experience working with cloud technologies (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, etc.)
  • Experience with data engineering, structure, formatting, conditioning, and analysis.
  • Experience with database tools and current data science processes.
  • An interest in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
  • Experience with version control tools, such as GitHub and Git.
