The Department of Cultural Facilities, Arts & Entertainment is seeking candidates for the position of Tour/Information Assistant. This position involves visitor service activities, such as greeting visitors, providing information about Seven Venues events and other downtown Norfolk attractions and responding to inquiries. Work also involves securing building and property against unauthorized entry and safety hazards and insuring appropriate behavior of visitors.Essential FunctionsEssential functions include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities and duties include answering multi-line phone system, and radio, checking voice messages, returning customer calls, screening, and transferring calls.

Providing internal and external customer service assisting with receptionist calendar, updating event booking with receptionist assigned to events, keeping up with the day-to-day office necessities,

Parking validations and serving as point of contact for parking activities.

Excellent customer service skills, phone etiquette and ability to work a flexible schedule.

Assisting visitors, relaying information, resolving issues and providing assistance and directions to walk-in customers.

Performs clerical duties by processing various paperwork, monitoring inventory and restocking supplies.

Opening, sorting and processing incoming and outgoing mail, receiving and distributing supplies.

Responsible to maintain up-to-date knowledge on department events and day-to-day activities.

This position serves as a helpful point-of-contact for the department.

Front desk coverage entails weekdays, evenings, weekend, and holidays to support all department events

Education/ExperienceWork requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.One year of experience in visitor services, or as a receptionist in the hospitality industry. The preferred candidate will possess excellent inter-personal skills and an interest in history and demonstrates the ability to work as a team member to provide excellent customer service to Scope visitors and all other venues.Additional Information & RequirementsWork Location: 201 E. Brambleton Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23510Working Hours: Must be able to work flexible hours Monday – Sunday including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.

Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.

Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.

Retirement

If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
