JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: DIRECTOR OF MARKETING - Virginia Arts FestivaL

DEPARTMENT: MARKETING

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SUMMARY:

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leads and manages the marketing team and supports the VAF brand.

Oversees advertising, freelance consultants, managers and design team in the creation and implementation of the marketing and communications strategies for all activities associated with the VAF. Manages marketing of revenue generating performances of the VAF.

Supports the direction, goals and artistic vision of the Artistic Director of the VAF as it pertains to the promotion of the Festival.

Builds and manages good relationships with media outlets, media sponsors and local arts organizations.

Conceptualizes and launches new audience development initiatives to attract and maintain audience. Creates and oversees special events to increase ticket sales and develop new audiences.

Seeks out and negotiates in-kind media sponsorship opportunities for promotional and advertising purposes. Identifies corporations for partnerships and seasonal promotions and negotiates all terms. Manages and oversees all additional co-promotions.

Oversees the planning and implementation of all advertising for the VAF seasons including radio, TV and social media. Produces the radio ads, TV spots and marketing/promotional materials of the VAF.

Creates and produces program books and institutional materials.

Determines the effectiveness of VAFs campaigns based on quantitative reporting, and implements changes to positively impact sales while effectively minimizing costs.

Oversees the VAFs website and provides marketing plans to produce and promote VAF through interactive and digital media.

Manages all marketing and sales applications of Tessitura Network and serves as liaison with other departments to maintain best practices using the Tessitura Network system.

Oversees the marketing department plans for local and national broadcasts recordings produced by VAF.

Manages all out of market and group sales initiatives.

Oversees marketing budget and makes adjustments on a week-to-week basis based on market factors.

Responsible for ensuring the budgets of Marketing and related departments remain balanced.

Creates and oversees annual sales revenues projections, working with the Executive Director.

Oversees regular reporting of sales and revenue and metrics.

Reviews all external communications and is responsible for maintaining brand continuity.

Seeks out, oversees and manages consultants as needed for audience development and new technology initiatives.

Works on special projects as designated by the Executive Director.

CONTACTS:

Internal: VAF senior staff, VAF Board of Directors.

External: Advertising agencies, market research companies, all media outlets, direct mail services, freelance and corporate consultants, corporations and partner arts organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree

Experience that includes budgeting, creating marketing plans and developing strategies

All aspects of print production and advertising

Web development and internet marketing

Managing marketing budget in excess of $500K

Sales experience and customer service/relations experience

Excellent analytic skills

Five years experience in nonprofit marketing, (performing arts, a plus)

Familiarity and/or experience with performing arts organizations

Ability to strategize, plan, prioritize and set timelines and metrics for success

Excellent writing, organizational, proofreading and communication skills

Knowledge of database and ticketing system, (Tessitura Network, a plus)

Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Power Point

Strong supervisory skills
