JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Mental Health Associate Department: Crisis Services

Type: Part Time, Hourly ($17/hr) Reports To: Program Director

Job Tasks/Responsibilities:

Plan, implement, and evaluate treatment plans using various and appropriate treatment interventions to facilitate human development and to identify and remediate mental, emotional or behavioral disorders and associated distresses which interfere with mental health.

Provide counseling treatment interventions (cognitive, affective, behavioral, psychodynamic, systemic, and integrative counseling strategies, techniques and methods) common to the behavioral sciences that are specifically implemented in the context of a therapeutic relationship.

Apply counseling interventions from the broad spectrum of treatment orientations and modalities to ameliorate suffering and return clients to premorbid levels of functioning.

Create and maintain documentation and record keeping consistent with prevailing standards of practice.

Establish and maintain standards essential to the professional counseling identity and function.

Adhere to professional ethics and standards of practice.

Refer clients/patients to medical service providers, other mental health service providers, and community resources when indicated.

Coordinate client/patient care with medical and other mental health services providers, as indicated.

Conduct ongoing assessments and outcome measures.

Utilize specialized training and developed clinical acumen in treatment.

Employ methods associated with the theoretical orientations noted herein.

Seek and attain continuing education to augment skills sets.

Establish therapy and psycho-education groups, as needed (e.g. grief, marriage and family issues).

Establish regular domestic violence support group

Provides culturally sensitive and effective services to people from various cultures, ethnicities, age groups, genders, sexual orientation, creed, through various service delivery models (individual counseling, Groups, couples, family counseling, etc.).

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications: The Counselor/Psychotherapist in Residence at the HER Shelter must hold at minimum a Masters Degree in a Clinical Mental Health discipline (counseling, clinical social work, psychology), and be currently licensed or actively pursuing licensure to practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Psychologist in the State of Virginia. Individuals who are seeking licensure must work under the clinical supervision of a currently licensed clinician who meets the qualifications to serve as a clinical supervisor as established by the governing authority for such matters in the State of Virginia. Candidates for Licensure must meet or exceed all requirements set forth in the laws and regulations governing their profession as established by the governing authority of their discipline and all applicable codes of ethics and standards of practice.
