Duties:
Performs intermediate semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of apartments. Does related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of a Maintenance Supervisor.
Ability to move or carry objects or materials such as sinks, counter tops, solid core and metal doors, debris, floor tile, fan motors, refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves (using hand truck). Lifting requirements exceed 75 lbs. infrequently. Ability to kneel, crawl, stoop and crouch in order to work in tight cramped spaces; ability to work in these spaces for extended amounts of time. Understand and abide by Fair Housing laws.
Examples of work:
Performs a variety of small repairs and general maintenance of apartments. Performs daily trash pickup and cleaning of office. Repairs small patches in preparation for painting. Helps repair doors, windows, hinges, locks, downspouts, etc. Helps repair roofs, sub-floors and floor coverings. Paints entire apartments to include walls, shelves, cabinets and trim. Performs rough carpentry; lays concrete; assists with plumbing repairs. Assists with electrical, heating and ventilating work, carpentry and mechanical repairs. Removes and installs appliances. Performs related tasks as required.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Some knowledge of common methods, materials and tools used in carpentry, painting, electrical and mechanical trades; ability to operate and care for hand and powered tools used in building trades; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Education and knowledge:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and a minimum of 1-year experience in general maintenance work.
