The UVACollab Applications group at the University of Virginia is seeking an experienced Sakai/Java Full Stack Developer to join our team. You'll have the opportunity to develop a high-visibility platform that scales to support thousands of course and collaboration sites at UVA.

The Full-Stack Developer will be responsible for researching, designing, implementing, testing, and documenting various projects that will involve bug fixes, enhancements, third party integrations, new tools, and major enhancements for UVACollab. We have modern developer tooling including Vagrant, Jira, GitHub, and CircleCI, and top-tier production infrastructure built on Docker Swarm.

Duties Include:
  • Design and develop software to automate, monitor, test, deploy, and support systems using modern development tooling.
  • Work heavily on backend Java development to optimize and maintain applications.
  • Perform regular tests of the high availability, disaster recovery, security, and backup processes.
  • Participate in upgrades and system enhancement projects.
  • Collaborate with team members acting as a resource for more junior developers when needed.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Our ideal candidate has the following: expert knowledge and experience with the ins and outs of educational software such as CMS/LMS/VLE; is comfortable directly querying and modifying MySQL databases; has experience connecting applications through integration APIs such as IMS LTI and takes pride in implementing optimal solutions to complex problems. Some experience with vue.js and front-end user interface development is highly preferred.

Requirements (must have one of the below combinations):
  • High School Diploma and 5 years of experience building sophisticated web applications using Java.
  • Relevant Bachelor's degree with an additional three years of direct experience.

Anticipated Hiring Range (not including benefits): $80,000 - $90,000 yearly, depending upon experience.This is a full-time, benefitted, salaried position, that will remain open until filled.
