PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:Under the direction of the Enterprise Architecture Manager, the incumbent’s accountabilities include, but are not limited to, the following:1. Oversees enterprise projects within the architectural domain. Works with business units to translate business strategy into both firm requirements and conceptual architecture. Oversees other IT staff in technology assessment. Develops architecture direction for new initiatives and provides guidance to project teams. Maintains in-depth up-to-date knowledge of standards, guidelines, industry trends, etc., for one or more architectural/infrastructure specialties. Shares knowledge of specialty areas/best practices across the enterprise. Develops and executes a communication plan for new standards, stated directions, guidelines, etc., as required.2. Defines the system, technical, and application architectures, and in some instances the business systems architecture for major areas of development, recommends course of action to maintain cost effectiveness and competitiveness. Stays up-to-date on CareFirst business initiatives and objectives, particularly as these relate to infrastructure architecture issues.3. Establishes technical rationale and business case for infrastructure changes.Proactively identifies and defines technical standards and procedures, as well as proactively defines direction for future infrastructure projects. Provides input into the enterprise-wide infrastructure target state for a specific infrastructure architecture. Collaborates with Enterprise Architects in other architectural areas to ensure comprehensive/cohesive working solutions are developed across architectures.4. Maintain knowledge of and apply industry best practices for architecture, leads cross-functional component architecture teams, and develops future architecture and technology migration plans. Evaluates and selects from existing and emerging technologies the options best fitting business and IT strategic needs.Travel between CareFirst sites is required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Required:This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related IT field or equivalent work experience. Has 8-10 years of experience in enterprise projects within the architectural domain. Experience in business process re-engineering or process improvement involving broad-based information systems, utilizing tools and techniques to effect business change; business systems analysis experience. Significant experience, in architectural management of multiple core component areas, migration planning and project management of infrastructure projects. Demonstrated experience in translating business strategies, across several business units, into effective solutions.

Abilities/Skills:The incumbent would interface across several channels, acting as a visionary, to assist, proactively in developing project direction. Ability to participate in decision making and anticipate organizational needs. Capable of presenting well designed, cost effect solutions to address business and organizational needs. Can manage or participate in large scale multi-disciplined projects. Ability to design and implement business architecture, processes and strategies. Strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management. Excellent analytical, planning, and communication skills. Acts as subject matter expert and mentors less experienced architects. Visionary in anticipating future IT direction and able to communicate that vision to IT and business partners.

Preferred:Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred. Experience with intranet development and implementation is a plus
