Job Summary There is one position that will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities. This role is responsible for design, consultation, installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective activities for electric distribution connected Distributed Energy Resources (DER). This includes but is not limited to:- Renewable Energy (Solar, Wind, Biomass).
- Energy Storage Systems.
- Microgrids.
- Standby Generation with extended paralleling times.
- Troubleshooting intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), automated control systems, instrument transformers, recloser units, by providing consultation, inspection, programming, testing, and recommendations.
- Troubleshooting DER connections causing harmonic, flicker, and/or resonance issues.
- Ensuring IEEE Std. 1547, UL1741, IEEE 519, and NESC requirements are satisfied as well as other regulatory and compliance related projects, initiatives, and activities.
- Providing technical support in the development and review of specifications, work scopes, bids, test procedures, alarm response procedures, commissioning plans, and vendor reports.
- Providing adequate customer service and interface with internal and external customers, DER developers, DER operators, DER owners, and various Dominion Energy departments.
- Investigating technologies that will improve operations and performance, and technologies that will assist in providing control system maintenance information and analysis.
- Supporting the development of processes that are technically and/or operationally focused, in support of project execution processes, construction processes, and goals for engineering and design standards that drive strong reliability performance.
- Supporting technical teams in the establishment of technical requirements that represent a global approach to the standardization of engineering and design requirements.
- Reviewing existing materials, components, and design standards for process improvements and cost savings. Help manage organizational change.
- Developing a strong understanding of company procurement processes and procedures. Serve as the business unit representative during the purchase of distribution materials and components. Represent the business unit and serve as a liaison with Supply Chain Management.
- Representing the company and engaging in industry forums and events as needed or requested, including the Southeastern Electric Exchange and the Electric Power Research Institute.
- Providing technical expertise and engineering leadership in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting network systems associated with control systems, including cellular, T1, Ethernet, fiber, 4-wire analog, and serial radios.
- Leading the development and/or analysis of protective relay settings, automation control schemes, fault events, communication events, etc.
- Training, supporting, and providing direction to peers and co-workers.
- Participating in storm restoration and other operational activities.
- Performing other duties as requested or assigned.
- Engineer I / Engineering Technical Specialist I: 1+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Engineer II / Engineering Technical Specialist II: 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Engineer III / Engineering Technical Specialist III: 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of electric distribution and transmission systems.
- Proficient using personal and mainframe computer systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of electricity fundamentals and protective device coordination.
- Preferred knowledge of relay and system protection.
- Preferred experience commissioning and troubleshooting energized equipment.
- Experience with rotating machines and inverter based DER technology.
- Preferred knowledge of microprocessor-based protection technology, including logic diagrams, communication interfaces, and fiber optic networks.
- Preferred knowledge of SCADA data communication equipment interfaces.
- Preferred knowledge in the following, including protocols and software programs: DNP3.0, IEC 61850, IEC 61131-3, MODBUS, Fiber Optics - Testing & Implementation, Omicron/Doble Testing, and Aspen Oneliner/Synergi Electric.

- Engineer I / Engineering Technical Specialist I: 1+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Engineer II / Engineering Technical Specialist II: 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Engineer III / Engineering Technical Specialist III: 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or;
- Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or;
- Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or;
- Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or;
- Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license
- 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
- 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering or other technical related discipline; or
- 4-year non-technical degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree
