About the Opportunity

The National Network Support team has an immediate opening for a Senior Network Engineer, reporting to IT Manager. The Senior Engineer is responsible for configuring, operating, and maintaining the network infrastructure associated with the Federal Reserve's infrastructure. The Senior Engineer will perform health checks, respond to and troubleshoot self-identified and user-reported issues, develop and maintain operational documentation. The Senior Engineer will be tasked with developing conceptual, logical, and physical network designs that support infrastructure requirements. Some design work will be required which requires working with stakeholders to obtain business requirements which will be mapped to technical infrastructure design capabilities. The Senior Engineer will communicate work with the stakeholders, identify testing requirements, prepare network testing strategies, and prepare implementation and transition plans as required for system maintenance, upgrades, and configuration changes.

What You Will Do:
  • Provide advanced technical support during business hours and non-business hours on a rotating on-call basis.
  • Resolve highly complex or critical incidents involving multiple enterprise services and components, at times in conjunction with peer groups and support teams.
  • Analyzes and revises existing system logic and documentation as necessary.
  • Responds to customer requests as defined by management completing assignments in a timely manner with an acceptable level of quality.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and selects new software/hardware.
  • Create, maintain, and update documentation on for network processes, procedures, and design considerations.
  • Work with vendors and internal support teams to update, maintain, and patch all network systems infrastructure.
  • Performs change and problem management using standard tools. Ensures conformance and compliance with existing system standards.
  • Recommend proactive solutions to minimize and/or prevent system interruption.
  • Leads highly technical/complex projects across System IT.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting using diagnostic and analysis tools.
  • Ability to function well in an environment of multiple high priorities and implementation requirements.
  • Team skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships will working in a virtual environment.
  • Monitors compliance with internal audit requirements and Information Security Manual guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Knowledge: Progressive knowledge pertaining to concepts and principles in networking. Examples include expertise in communication & routing protocols, network hardware & software systems, diagnostic & performance tools,
  • Communications: Strong interpersonal, negotiation, creativity, attention to detail, and oral and written communications skills with the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical groups.
  • Risk Management: Responsible for understanding and applying risk management discipline in decision making and contributing to functional risk management.
  • Decision Making: Works under direction with infrequent checks; follows established methods working within clear-cut policies. Makes decisions when general instructions or established methods indicate action needs to be taken.
  • Hours of Work: May require extended work hours. Occasional travel including overnight stays may be necessary. May be subject to on-call and call back as needed. May be exposed to moderate noise from equipment.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience with 6 to 9+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Knowledge of Cloud architecture and engineering
  • Knowledge of virtualized infrastructure
  • Knowledge of automation/orchestration/development tools (Ansible, Git, YAML, Python).
  • Knowledge of nix based Operating Systems
  • Understanding of the agile framework
  • Knowledge of security appliances (firewalls, proxies, etc)

  • The hiring range of the position is $83,800 - $104,800 annually
  • For candidates outside Richmond, VA, listed hiring and salary ranges may be adjusted based on your geographic location.
