Job Description

  • Carry out routine GC and GCMS methods in an analytical production laboratory primarily during times of peak volume.
  • Carry out research and literature review, and liaison with the client method development team on development, optimization, transfer, and validation of new methods
  • Lead special projects as needed and requested; contribute to implementing operational process improvements
  • Mentor and train junior scientists
  • Perform instrument calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, recognize errors, identify root causes, and maintain excellent working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting
  • Meet all quality and productivity metrics
  • Apply the highest quality standard in all areas of responsibility; maintain ISO 17025 quality standards and accreditation for the laboratory.
  • Review data, data notebooks, logbooks, and reports to ensure highest quality
  • Learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and follow WIs and SOPs as written
  • Demonstrate strong client service skills
  • Proactively plan and maximize productivity
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork and collaboration
  • Implement operational improvements
  • Support and promote company policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant, applicable laboratory experience
  • 4-year degree in chemistry or related scientific discipline required
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) preferred.
  • In-depth experience using GC and GCMS instrumentation
  • Experience working within an established quality system (ISO 17025 preferred)
  • Understanding of production laboratory operations
  • Experience in method development, instrument troubleshooting, method improvements, process improvements, and training of junior scientists
  • Detailed-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills along with demonstrated ability to collaborate with others.
  • Strong computer, client service, scientific, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

Position is full-time, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Richmond, VAare encouraged to apply.
