Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer for Virginia and southern West Virginia, is seeking a part-time Buildings & Grounds Helper at our Salem, Virginia corporate headquarters. This position is responsible for assisting the facilities team in maintaining all assigned buildings and grounds. This includes rapidly responding to customer concerns, investigating specific conditions, and making repairs as needed. Experience in a building/construction or maintenance trade is a plus. High School diploma or GED required. Excellent opportunity for someone wanting to learn the facilities maintenance trade, or for someone who is retiring from this field but wanting to continue working part-time hours. This position can accommodate a flexible, daytime schedule, Monday through Friday, up to 30 hours per week.
Required Skills:
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and perform basic mechanical repairs of HVAC equipment, electrical and plumbing systems.
Assist in office organizing, i.e., hanging pictures, bulletin boards, painting, and carpentry tasks.
Perform landscape maintenance, i.e., pruning, weeding, general grounds keeping, snow removal, and irrigation repairs.
Interact with and oversee the performance of outside vendors working on Carter Machinery property.
Must possess an excellent driving record, with valid driver's license.
Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
Must meet physical requirements for the job, including the ability to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, including bulky objects. This position requires repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing beside, onto and under a variety of equipment. Must be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, dampness and humidity.
