Description

This Helper role assists in the tie-down of flatbed loads to ensure safe and compliant delivery of customer product. Qualified Helper ensures safety of self, other helpers, and driver as loads are secured, following all appropriate safety policies and procedures. The Helper takes direction from the Lead Helper role, and reports directly to the Fleet Manager. This individual is also expected to interface with other employees and management including those who work at the customer site.

Essential Functions & Major Accountabilities

Effectively and safely straps and secures loads according to cargo securement guidelines

May drive equipment that is non-CDL rated

Load heavy product using pre-determined safe procedures

Conducts routine equipment inspections to ensure appropriate procedure and guidelines meet DOT Standards

May assist in preparing receipts for load(s)

Required Skills

Requirements “ Knowledge, Skills & Accountabilities

Knowledge of DOT standards and regulations for secured cargo

Will position blocks, chains, etc. to secure loads

Ability to perform strenuous physical activities required by position:

Must have the ability to lift 75-100lbs

Ability to raise oneself up to 52 from ground to trailer, up to 4 times per trailer loading and/or unloading

Ability to secure loads up to 85,000 lbs., including chaining 4 points, up to 4 pieces of equipment per load

Ability to climb ladders and crawl in tight spaces

Ability to mobilize in areas with limited track/walkways within equipment

Ability to maintain radio/communication contact and interact with authorities in a professional manner

Education/Experience Requirements

High School Diploma or GED equivalent is highly preferred

Valid Virginia Drivers License with clean driving record

Demonstrate strong work ethic, punctuality, great reliability, and willingness to get the job done right, in a safe and efficient manner.
