Work You'll Do

We are seeking a talented Bioinformatics Scientist to work closely with our team of Senior Bioinformaticians and Epidemiologists on a project within our Federal Health sector. In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for managing and analyzing large genomic databases from epidemiological and clinical studies. This includes but is not limited to data manipulation, algorithmic implementation, statistical programming, and integrated genomic analyses.
  • Provide support and expertise in installing, troubleshooting and running analytical pipelines using open-source and commercial scientific software on Unix/Linux and Cloud-hosted platforms, and using publicly available bioinformatics and genomic databases and tools. Data types can include genome-wide genotyping arrays, DNA sequencing, gene expression profiling, and methylation profiling from a range of tissues and cancer types.

Travel up to 5% (While 5% of travel is a requirement of the role, due to COVID-19, non-essential travel has been suspended until further notice.)

Analytics & Cognitive will work with our clients to:

    Qualifications

    Required:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
    • 5+ years of relevant consulting or industry experience
    • Demonstrated experience with OS UNIX, Advanced Statistical Analysis and Modeling, and Genetic Algorithm Analytics
    • A Master of Biological and Biomedical Sciences
    • Eligible to obtain and maintain Public Trust security clearance or above
    • Experience in analysis packages and programming languages such as R, Python, SPSS, SQL, and SAS
    • Demonstrated experience in scientific research methods as applied to quantitative data analysis
    • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation creation tools, as well as Internet research tools
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
    Preferred:
    • Knowledge of machine learning, data mining, and statistical modeling
    • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with experience exercising mature judgment
    • Experience in whole exome/genome sequencing analysis (such as mutation, copy number and structural variant calling), mutational signatures, tumor evolution, and epigenetic analysis
    • Familiarity and established working knowledge of tools to investigate cancer genomics with publicly available data sources (such as dbGaP, TCGA, ENCODE, 1000 Genomes, TARGET, GTEX, gnomAD, cBioPortal)
    • Demonstrated experience with diverse genomic annotations and bioinformatic tools
    • Experience managing large datasets and computational tasks
    • Working knowledge of human genetics or molecular genetics, epidemiology, clinical research or biostatistics
    • Experience in the field of molecular and population genetics
    • Demonstrated ability to write clearly, succinctly, and in a manner that appeals to a wide audience
    • Experience coaching or mentoring junior staff
