Job Summary

This job is established only for employees who have entered the formal training program for Senior Reactor Operator licensure. Upon successful completion of the training program, incumbents will be trained to provide technical and operational leadership to assist with the supervision of licensed and non-licensed nuclear operators on an assigned shift. Trainees are being prepared to be responsible for the overall safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a nuclear power plant, under all conditions, in accordance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's regulations and Dominion's Operating Specifications and Standards. The training for licensure as a Unit Supervisor will include preparation for exercising control over the conduct of maintenance operations on all plant equipment during the shift, ensuring shift operations are conducted in accordance with requirements of the license, technical specifications, and station procedures, providing operational oversight for nuclear reactor, turbine generator equipment, related systems and computer controls. Responsibilities may also include interfacing with transmission facility during assigned shift. Training will also include preparation for coordinating operational activities required to support normal or abnormal conditions, maintenance evaluations, and testing of equipment, monitoring and evaluating operators in the development and continuing training programs. Upon being licensed, may be designated to relieve the Shift Manager and to assume command and control of the Unit. Duties, at all times, will include responsibility for the safe operation of assigned plant and the protection of personnel, both plant and civilian. Unit Supervisor trainees will direct the work of licensed and non-licensed operators during 520 hours of in plant time during training with a licensed SRO providing oversight of their activities. Once licensed, incumbents will be authorized to make decisions regarding shutting down the plant due to emergent problems. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

HS diploma or GED plus the equivalent of 60 hours of college level instruction in math, chemistry, materials, reactor theory, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, electrical and reactor control theory.

Able to satisfy ANSI 4.3.1.1

Has performed licensed reactor operator duties as an active reactor operator for a minimum of 1 year on site

or has 1 year or more experience as a active reactor operator at a commercial power reactor facility of the same vendor or vintage

or has 18 months or more as a active reactor operator at a comparable BWR/PWR facility or noncomparable commercial power reactor facility

or 2 years or more in a position equivalent to reactor operator position at a military reactor.

ORHas a BS degree or equivalent in engineering, engineering technology or related sciences or a professional engineer license and 18 months or more of responsible nuclear power plant experience.

Six months experience on site.

Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of the operation of nuclear reactor, turbine generator equipment and related computer controls, or has successfully completed the Naval Nuclear Program and has related work experience.

Demonstrates a sincere respect for the need for attention to all matters affecting nuclear safety.

Demonstrated leadership skill and ability to provide clear work direction, develop work schedules, and make decisions.

Skilled in problem solving and problem resolution.

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3 and above, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined are strongly encouraged to apply.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Holds or has held a Reactor Operator (RO) license or has B.S. degree or equivalent in engineering, engineering technology or related sciences or holds a professional engineer license.
