Description of General Duties

Supports large area tracking range (LATR) maintenance responsibilities, in accordance with all applicable directives and plans, to meet all contract requirements. Performs duty as System Administrator for LATR network. Installs and maintains WAN/LAN networks, CISCO routers, bridges, CSU/DSU units, switches and hubs, TCP/IP network services. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. Conducts site surveys and evaluations for potential LATR deployment sites and installs PGIS and associated equipment. Assists communications technicians with installation and maintenance of LATR T-1 WAN.

Establishes and implements technical and administrative controls for LATR operation and maintenance in accordance with contract requirements. Responsible for quality of all LATR functions to include operations, maintenance, IA, PM corrosion control, transportation, training, safety, facility services, resource allocation, engineering integration, and documentation. Complies with contract requirements and takes action when necessary to correct deficiencies.

Performs complex troubleshooting, isolates malfunctions, repairs to the component level, and incorporates engineering changes. Exercises independent judgment on tasks such as Network architecture changes and implementation. Plans or assists in planning tests to evaluate system/equipment performance. Determines test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures; conducts tests, analyzes and evaluates test results, and prepares reports on findings and recommendations Uses complex test instruments such as, spectrum analyzers, and computer analytical equipment. Work may be reviewed by Quality Assurance for compliance with accepted practices. Trains and provides technical guidance to lower-level technicians. Documents maintenance actions in IEMS.

Provides contractor technical management, including liaison with government personnel. Identifies technical training requirements to training specialist and monitors training accomplishment.

Ensures completion of corrosion control, equipment status reporting, transportation, and supply to ensure compliance with contract requirements. Supports special tests, evaluations, equipment relocations, and new equipment installations as required. Coordinates integration efforts with associate contractors. Performs organizational, intermediate, and depot-level maintenance on assigned equipment.

Meets with the government as requested. Supports government-sponsored meetings, briefings, and reviews as required. Prepares or approves required reports to ensure compliance with all contract requirements.

Provides recommendations to improve or expand all facets of operations to include maintenance, engineering, and logistics support. Ensures economy of operation by improvement of work methods and procedures.

Minimum Experience Requirements:
  • Five years' technical experience with complex electronic systems.
  • Five years' electronic/computer systems maintenance in the following areas:•Computer operating systems (including: LINUX, LYNX OS, Windows 2K/XP and Cisco IOS);
  • System and Network Information Assurance (IA)
  • RF systems;
  • Communications (multiplexer equipment, VHF, UHF, microwave, fiber-optic);
  • computer systems;
  • DC power supplies;
  • Test equipment;
  • Auto-transfer (UPS) equipment;
  • Three years experience in the following areas:
  • System and network administration
  • LAN/WAN systems
  • Router configuration/programming
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Minimum Position Specific Training Required
  • Physically able to perform extended physical labor to include heavy lifting and carrying of PIPs (67 pounds) and other LATR-associated equipment during ship/participant installation.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance
  • May be required to maintain current COMSEC certification.
  • Must possess a valid state Driver's License.
  • Must maintain current CPR/First Aid certification. (Within 6 months of hire date)
  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university. Combination of formal education and professional experience may be used in lieu of degree. Associate's degree is preferred.
  • Formal classroom education equivalent to Navy "C" School or vocational school with formal training in the field of electronic equipment maintenance and equipment manufacturer training
