Whatcom Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track History instructor beginning Fall Quarter 2020. The College is seeking a dynamic individual interested in developing and engaging students through the use and implementation of innovative and inclusive curriculum and teaching methods, including the application of technology, both inside and outside the classroom. The College seeks faculty who have the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, colleagues, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and global understanding. College faculty teach an equivalent of 15 credits per quarter and contribute to the College through committee service and program leadership and development.

Qualifications, Salary and Appointment

Minimum Qualifications:

-Master's degree in History.

-Experience teaching in a higher education setting using a student-centered approach to teaching and learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Ph.D. in History.

-Graduate training and teaching ability in a non-Western field of historical study, such as Latin America, Africa, or Asia.

-Ability to teach an introductory course in American government.

-Experience developing and implementing diverse instructional approaches such as the use of technology, service learning, and/or learning communities.

-Curriculum development and assessment experience.

-Leadership and/or college service experience.

-Professional contributions to the discipline (conference presentations, publications, etc.).

-Experience using a learning management system, preferably Canvas.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

-An understanding of, and commitment to, the role of the community college in higher education.

-Cultural competence and a commitment to equity and inclusion.

-Broad content knowledge sufficient to teach survey courses in world civilization and United States history.

-A commitment to student-centered, inclusive pedagogy.

-Excellent interpersonal skills and communication abilities with students and colleagues.

-A commitment to WCC's vision as "an innovative college, engaged with our diverse and changing communities".

Salary and Appointment:

-The 2019-20 Master's degree salary begins at $55,163 (additional degrees, experience, and state-funded and negotiated increases will increase the actual starting salary); 174 day annual contract.
