Mountain Host - Alpine Lakes High Camp

Alpine Lakes High Camp is a collection of 9 backcountry ski/hike/bike cabins that are available for nightly rental year-round. Located at 5,000 elevation, just 15min west of the town of Leavenworth WA, the property is tucked up alongside the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. With over 400,000 acres of peaks, lakes, ridges, trails, and rivers to explore right out your cabin door theres no shortage of activity. In addition to the cabins, there is a community lodge, wood fired hot-tub & sauna, showers, and outhouse facilities. At this off-grid rustic resort, guests spend their time pursuing their favorite mountain activity having arrived to a fully-equipped and cozy cabin. Responsibilities and Qualifications
The Mountain Host is an integral and unique position for Alpine Lakes High Camp, its guests, and also the person in the role. Its a bit of a Jack or Jill of all trades position requiring skills and experience in Customer Service, General Maintenance, Outdoor Sports and Manual Labor. The Mountain Host is onsite at Alpine Lakes High Camp day and night during their shift ensuring guests have the best cabin rental and backcountry/wilderness experience possible! Specific hosting duties can range from splitting wood/kindling, cleaning/prepping cabins, informing guests on trail conditions, running the wood fired hot-tub, and dealing with the unique challenges that are a part of life in a backcountry off-grid resort. Occasional transport support duties can include driving 4wd vehicles on a rough road and loading/unloading gear. Key skills for this position include being independent, a self-starter on projects, a calm problem solver, and both mechanically and socially inclined. Youll have a lot of autonomy in your day, but you also might be called to action to help get a woodstove fire started for a guest at any moment. During the winter season, always good to have your skis/splitboard or snowshoes at the ready its expected that youre familiar with the surrounding terrain and snow conditions. Its pretty much an outdoor paradise!
Key Responsibilities
Ensure and provide high level of guest service/experiences
Assess and execute daily duties and tasks
Uphold property and vehicles for efficient operation and cleanliness
Act as communication point to main office and respond to field emergencies
Clean and prepare cabins, lodge, etc. for guest visits
Respond to misc. enquiries or situations as they arise
Perform thorough vehicle and equipment inspections including; check oil, transmission, coolant, tire pressure, lights, etc.
Respond to guests needs and anticipate their unstated ones
Ensure guests are properly informed of the workings of the cabins, lodge, and facilities upon their arrival
Coordinate and execute High Camp arrivals and departures
Skills and Qualifications
Minimum age 21 years old, no special license required
Minimum 1 year in similar outdoor group facilitation and/or hospitality setting
Knowledge of outdoor sports, equipment, and safety
Cooperative and positive attitude
Friendly, outgoing, punctual and comfortable with a variety of people in a quickly changing work environment
Strong personal initiative, motivation, and resourcefulness
Able to give/receive timely and effective feedback
Personal and professional values in alignment with Alpine Lakes High Camp principles
Familiar with off-road vehicle operation and light maintenance (preferred but not required)
Valid drivers license and clean driving record/background check
Able to drive company vehicles on steep/rugged roads and lift 75lbs overhead
Computer skills including Outlook, Word, Excel
Smart phone and proficient use required for business operations day-to-day
Experience in avalanche/snow safety required, current AIARE certification (preferred but not required)
Current WFR and CPR certifications (preferred but not required)
Passion for the outdoors and the environment are required
Shifts
Shifts run 4 days on, 3 days off. Two shift schedules are available: Thurs-Sun or Fri-Mon. During shift staff overnight at the cabins, with staff lodging provided.
Compensation and Benefits
This role is a full time position, starting pay at $112/day with room for growth based on experience and time with Alpine Lakes High Camp. Winter Mountain Hosts are preferred candidates for Summer Mountain Host positions running end of May through end of October yearly. Potential opportunities to attend trainings for WFR, CPR, and/or Avalanche safety. Eligible for extensive Pro Deals and Alpine Lakes Wilderness area is your office!
