The Communities In Schools of Benton-Franklin (CISBF) Office is a high energy organization
supporting site staff in 26 schools across four regional school districts including Pasco, Kennewick,
Richland and Prosser. Our role is to remove barriers to student success through the proven CIS
model of Integrated Student Services.
The successful candidate will bring 5+ years of relevant nonprofit resource development expertise
to elevate this rapidly growing organization. Development Director will primarily work
independently while maintaining flexibility to meet established goals and address emerging
priorities. This position will also work collaboratively with the Board and staff.
Job Summary:
The Development Director is responsible for developing a multi-year strategy and supporting
annual plans that enable us to achieve our ambitious resource development goals. In addition to
cultivating and developing their own resource development efforts, they will effectively leverage
board member efforts to meet the revenue goals of the CISBF office which are benchmarked and
evaluated annually. This position provides leadership and expertise to help strengthen fund
raising capability and capacity of the CISBF office.
Essential Functions:
Develop and implement a comprehensive fund development plan to meet strategic
objectives and financial goals.
Develop, retain and deepen corporate and foundation relationships; coordinate event
sponsorships and identify other potential avenues of corporate support.
Collaborate with the Board Resource Development Committee Chair to lead and support
activities of the board; inspire, develop and leverage board member talents and
connections through coaching and mentoring, to maximize resource development support.
Implement, coordinate, and optimize an annual individual giving program with customized
cultivation plans.
Oversee the development and implementation of friend raising and fund raising events in
alignment with the resource development plan; coordinate our annual Spring Into Action
Event to leverage agency capacity and secure contracted support to meet established goals.
Provide guidance, consulting, and leadership to the board to strengthen fundraising skills
and capacity within our local communities.
Support executive director's role with fundraising strategies through the affiliate network
resource development committee.
Demonstrate leadership and customer service in alignment with the CISBF office values and
belief in local empowerment.
Actively contribute to a culture of team work with CISBF, the state office and affiliate
network.
Represent CISBF on national CIS development initiatives and partnerships.
Increase local business partnerships and donor stewardship.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelors degree in communications, public relations, business or other related areas
preferred; Masters Degree desired.
CFRE certification a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of five years fundraising for nonprofits and/or community organizations with
increasing responsibilities; work with a federated organization a plus.
Development and implementation of a successful resource development plan with a range of
clearly defined fund development strategies.
Use of a client relationship manager database for donor cultivation and stewardship.
Direct engagement with Board members to cultivate prospective supporters and evidence of
successful solicitation of gifts $1,000 or higher.
Guiding staff and Board to support agency goals.
Public speaking and presentations for small to large audiences.
Grant writing; evidence of 5+ grants that have been funded.
Demonstrated Skills:
Exceptional relationship skills to foster team work aligned with strong leadership qualities to
motivate staff and board members.
Highly entrepreneurial, multi-tasker with a solution focus.
Competency with computer software including Microsoft Office Suite and a client relationship
manager database.
Comfort in dealing with a variety of personalities, positions and skill levels.
Organized, efficient, detail and process oriented.
Excellent written, oral, presentation, and professional skills.
Requirements:
Pass criminal background check.
Ability to work evening and weekends as needed.
Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to meet with donors in various settings.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
