The Walla Walla Foundry, in Walla Walla, Washington is seeking candidates for a Sculpture Production Trainee. The trainee will work in multiple sculpture production departments under the guidance of project managers, department managers, and project team leads. Trainee will be trained in five principle practices of sculpture production based on project demand: 1) Point up, 2) Mold making, 3) Wax pattern pouring and tooling, 4) Layout and fabrication of sprue system for metal delivery to pattern, 5) metal casting preparation and chasing. Additionally, trainees may work under direction of crating staff in the construction of steel platform and wood crates for monumental contemporary sculpture, as well as warehouse work related to mold storage and organization.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

Assist skilled production workers with projects as assigned.

Perform tasks involving physical labor for building projects. May operate a variety of hand and power tools, clean and prepare sites, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble/debris and remove waste materials.

Operation of man-lift and material moving equipment (forklifts, etc.)

Routinely follow work instructions to perform tasks. May be required to interpret the results of certain test procedures, troubleshoot and repair parts when necessary, and refer situations outside of instructions to the supervisor.

Achieve and maintain quality and productivity standards while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications:

Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English well enough to accurately follow detailed written procedures and work instructions as well as record and review data; clearly document your work, and talk with fellow workers and managers.

Experience using a variety of hand and power tools preferred.

Ability to perform basic math calculations, and to read English and metric tapes.

Maintain the mental and physical flexibility to work comfortably with regularly-changing work priorities.

Demonstrate manual dexterity, steady hands, strong hand-eye coordination, and skill to work on finely-detailed items.

Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions. Strict adherence to safety protocols.

Ability to work both independently and as a team member to complete daily activities.

Strong sense of urgency.

Must have the interest and ability to advance to higher positions with experience. These positions will require greater use of math, reading, and technical skills such as reading engineering drawings, troubleshooting equipment and manufacturing issues.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist. Use a lift assist or assistance from co-workers when lifting over 50 lbs.

Must be able to push/pull a weight of 60lbs.

Must have grip strength of at least 50 lbs.

Education

High School graduate (or equivalent).

Wage and Benefits

Wage negotiable based on experience and performance during on-site evaluation. Walla Walla Foundry wage for individuals who demonstrate proficiency at listed qualifications ranges from $16.00- $22.00/hour.
