Job Summary:Manages staff and work activities of the Central Sterilization and Reprocessing (CSR) department, which serves the local Ambulatory Surgery Center and the outpatient medical centers in the surrounding region. Aligns work processes and staff priorities to support the accomplishment of established service agreements, department goals, regulatory obligations and financial, clinical and customer service objectives.Essential Responsibilities:

Manages and leads staff within the CSR department. Recruits and hires staff certified or eligible for certification. Evaluates performance and provides skills development and education to support achievement of performance standards. Develops and monitors productivity expectations. Works with ASC manager re: change management and other key departmental activities to assure safe implementation. Consults with local managers regarding CSR work/roles in the clinical areas that the CSR department supports, e.g. Procedure Center, specialty and primary care clinics.

Participates in development, assessment and improvement of systems for receiving, reprocessing, manufacturing, sterilizing, distributing and disposing of materials, instrumentation, medical devices and equipment, in accordance with organizational objectives.

Assures that department meets or exceeds local/state/federal guidelines and regulatory requirements, e.g.OSHA, DOH, CDC, PSAPCA, ANSI/AAMI, AORN, FDA and the KFHPW Infection Control Committee. Develops, monitors and implements the departments quality assurance, safety, disaster, environmental and infection control programs. Remains active in professional organizations and networks with Central Services and peri-operative professionals to stay abreast of new technology, new procedures and performance benchmarking.

Collaborates with multiple internal customer departments within the region to contribute to efficiency, financial success and customer service outcomes of the clinical areas. Aligns priorities to meet market goals, establishes clear service level agreements. Assesses, inventories and standardizes the purchase and use across patient areas. Maintains a repository of surplus instruments.

Plans and prepares the annual capital and operating budgets for the department. Contributes to ROIs for new expenditures if required. Monitors budget performance monthly and makes adjustments to align with approved budgets.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

Minimum one (1) year of management or supervisory experience in a hospital or specialty based Central Services unit, performing instrumentation and equipment processing and case carts.

Education

High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

Registered Central Service Technician Certificate

Additional Requirements:

Knowledge of MS Word and Excel.

Knowledge of the mechanics and regulations regarding sterilization and medical device and equipment processing and distribution.

Infection Control principles and guidelines and requirements of regulatory agencies (e.g. OSHA, PSAPCA, DOH, JCAHO & CDC).

Demonstrated ability to direct and lead others in multiple and diverse activities.

Excellent organizational, resource utilization, people development and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Budget development experience.

Skilled at managing change, system design/redesign, project management and presentation.

CS Management Certification.
