Job Description

The Business Identities team enables sellers to do business through Square by modeling and verifying their identities—from the smallest sole proprietor to the most complex corporations. We build platforms and services to enable sellers to use a variety of Square’s products as quickly, reliably, and painlessly as possible, starting with taking payments. This team is also investing in building public APIs for their services.

As a tech lead, you will play a pivotal role in the design & development of solid infrastructure of business modeling, storing, building public APIs, documentation, and monitoring. While working on this team, you’ll get a chance to make critical technology decisions, solve massively complex problems, and develop new skills in the process. In addition, you will be results-driven and coaching teams to deliver software products at the highest levels of quality and craftsmanship.

The ideal candidate will help scale the Business Identities team as we continue to experience dramatic growth in our sellers globally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deeply understand the Square’s infrastructure and systems.

  • Be a subject matter expert in relevant project/product and technology areas. Build and improve solutions in collaboration with engineering, product, and cross functional partners.

  • Lead design, development, and release of our first public API for identity modeling and verification.

  • Build a solid alert and monitoring system.

  • Drive consensus between half a dozen engineering teams on an architecture for modeling and sharing identity data between product areas.

  • Mentors other senior engineers or managers on strategy, collaboration, influence, execution, and other aspects of leadership.

Qualifications

You have:

  • 8+ years of hands on software engineering experience

  • Excellent software engineering knowledge and the ability to provide technical mentorship and guidance

  • Relevant engineering experience in lending, accounting, or similar domains

  • Experience collaborating with product managers, data analysts, and other engineering and cross-functional leaders

  • Interest in working on a platform team building tools, APIs, and services for internal and external customers
