Jump start your Payroll/HR career! This part-time position prepares, reviews, and processes payroll records and documents in a centralized payroll system bi-weekly and assists with HR projects.

This is a temporary position with the potential to become permanent/full-time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares and inputs payroll data; and uses automated systems to produce accurate and timely payroll

Responsible for the proper application of collective bargaining contract provisions and zoo, city, state, and federal policies relating to compensation administration covering a diversity of represented and non-represented employees.

Responsible for the timely and accurate processing (data entry) of payroll related timesheets through payroll and timekeeping automated systems

Processes payroll adjustments (including manual checks) as needed every pay period

Investigate and correct payroll discrepancies under the direction of the Compensation and Benefits Manager

Works with manager to ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws

Assists in preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, year-end, and ad hoc reports (e.g. gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.)

Perform HR functions as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Two-year degree from an accredited college or certificate in Business Administration, Payroll Administration, Accounting, HR or a related field; and 2+ years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred

2+ years experience with payroll processes and procedures preferred

Knowledge of payroll and labor distribution system operations and an understanding of accounting principles and practices, including payroll auditing.

Experience with in-house payroll systems and relevant software preferred

Experience with payroll administration for different pay groups, including union-represented positions preferred

Knoweledge of HR functions preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. This position required the ability to transit across the 92-acre zoo and occasionally climb stairs.

This position works in a typical office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The workspace may be open, informal and communal in nature with the accompanying distractions of co-worker traffic and employee conversations on a daily basis.
