Captioners / Transcriptionists work from home and enjoy a flexible work schedule. Captioners will provide accurate closed captions and/or transcriptions to our online videos out of consideration to the Deaf & Hard of Hearing. Also to provide captions or transcriptions from English to other languages to maximize the accessibility and inclusiveness of our freely available training and edutainment videos and presentations.
Basic training will be provided using Youtube's closed captioning tools.
RPG Research is a 501(c) non-profit research and human services organization studying the effects of music and role-playing games and their ability to improve lives.
Job Duties (Essential Functions):
- Strong typing skills
- Strong listening skills
- Strong written language skills
- Produce closed captions and/or transcriptions of the spoken word into text as close to verbatim as possible.
- Record notes as needed and as per organization procedures.
- Participate in ongoing training as needed.
Skills/Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Ability to read, write English proficiently.
- Dedicated to ongoing process of improving skills.
- Detail oriented, follows procedures.
- Some technical familiarity with computers.
- Commit to at least 5 hours per week (no more than 10).
- Able to learn new systems quickly
Preferred:
- Experience using Youtube's closed captioning tools.
- Multi-lingual, able to translate via text the English videos to other languages for captioning and/or transcription.
Required
Ability to pass an assessment and a background check.
High speed internet connection.
Computer with physical keyboard.
Computer with working audio and microphone.
