JOB SUMMARY: The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible to inspect, maintain, repair and replace building mechanical and electrical systems. This position will work with access control systems, building heating and cooling systems, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, fire detection and alarm systems, landscaping and any other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer &/or Facilities Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS:

  • Evaluate, repair and maintain plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems in the building
  • Communicate with facilities management about any work that requires outside expert assistance
  • Respond to employee and customer reports of mechanical or maintenance issues in the building
  • Work with tools and supplies necessary to complete projects
  • Always maintain corporate safety procedures and comply with access control regulations
  • Maintain fire and alarm systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance on a scheduled basis
  • Installs new equipment and fixtures as needed
  • Takes immediate action to address any safety concerns that could put a staff member, volunteer, customer, animal or the organization at risk
  • Perform ad hoc handyman tasks as required
  • Represents the Society in a positive manner by professional personal appearance
  • Ensure a safe work environment, following all safety guidelines and modeling safe work practice
  • Model and encourage the humane treatment of animals
  • Is flexible with scheduling as needed to meet the needs of the organization
  • Willing and cooperatively performs other duties as assigned by proper authority, that may not be in specific job description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty well. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Available to work weekends, holiday shifts and overtime as needed to complete projects
  • Knowledge of building components, such as elevator functions, HVAC, building codes, and preventive maintenance
  • Outgoing, polite and professional manner
  • Team player, able to work in a fast-pace environment and multi-task.
  • Communicate effectively orally
  • Must possess a valid and unrestricted Washington state driver’s license with a clean DMV record for the past 3 years
  • Must have the ability to multi task, prioritize and handle high levels of stress
  • Position requires excellent organizational skills, as well as high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Must be dependable, have proven ability to meet deadlines and follow detailed instructions without need of constant support.

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Any acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in building and facility maintenance
  • 4+ years building maintenance experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of (B/basic; J/journey; E/expert):

  • Math skills (B)
  • Speak, read, and write in the English language (B)
