This company located in Vancouver, WA (near Portland, Oregon) is seeking a Fiber Laser Product Development Process Engineer for a full-time, direct role. The company develops next-generation fiber lasers in a fast-growing, vertically integrated company. As a core member of an interdisciplinary team, you will take products from concept phase through product release and into high-volume manufacturing. You will develop innovative processes and custom tools that enable industry-leading performance for high-power fiber lasers and their critical components. These products serve both established and emerging applications and are key to the company's growth strategy.Functions
  • Contribute to cross-functional development teams to deliver innovative laser products.
  • Lead and execute process and tooling development and improvement projects from conception to completion.
  • Support transition of new products from prototype to volume production using DFSS DFA, and DFM.
  • Evaluate, procure, and qualify new manufacturing and diagnostic equipment and tools.
  • Identify and evaluate external advancements, enabling development of custom tools and processes and qualifying them into production.
  • Support new and released products and processes via problem solving, documentation, and training of personnel.
  • Drive continuous improvement opportunities and increase yield metrics using a variety of analytical techniques (SPC, DOE, Gauge R&R) and lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methods.
  • Direct activities of engineering technicians.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in engineering (Optical, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Physics) or exceptional industrial experience in closely related technologies.
  • 2+ years of recent experience in process or product development of lasers, systems engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience setting up new product lines, and proven track record of transitioning products and processes into volume production
  • Hands on working experience with optical fibers, lasers, optics, electronics and precision opto-mechanical systems and tools.
  • Strong record of problem solving through structured methodologies and implementing robust processes and systems.
  • Situational leadership skills and ability to work with cross functional & multi-site teams effectively.
  • Project leadership and systems engineering experience
  • Experience with mechanical drawings, basic tooling and fixture design.
  • ASQ Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt preferred
