POSITION OVERVIEW

In this leadership position, you will lead efforts within the Legal Department to develop and implement strategic plans for assessing and identifying potential risks in the Department that may pose risks to its reputation, safety and soundness, operations, security, and/or financial success, communicate and collaborate with leadership and other key stakeholders across the enterprise on these matters, and understand business objectives. This leader will cultivate a culture of risk and help build and mature our risk strategy for ourin-house,legal department.

The Legal – Risk Management – Director role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

  • Lead the group responsible for determining business areas and activities in the Legal Department that pose potential operational and other risks to the enterprise
  • Assist leadership with developing a process to identify and mitigate risks
  • Direct team efforts to evaluate the impact of proposed risks to the enterprise
  • Oversee information monitoring and processes to reduce risk using rigorous analysis and may assist with implementing updates and changes to the process
  • Direct efforts to document resolutions and control guidelines
  • Drive implementation of business strategies that will drive success in the face of shifting consumer behaviors and regulations

Qualifications

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

  • 8+ years of related experience required
  • 5+ years of experience in risk, ideally operational risk supporting 1st and/or 2nd line risk functions
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Master’s degree or other advanced degree preferred
  • Experience with operational risk activities supporting a Legal department of a financial institution highly preferred
  • 5 years or more of experience influencing and developing relationships across a broad spectrum of stakeholders in business, risk, and regulatory organizations; ideally a background navigating a large employee population of lawyers (150)
  • Experience performing or reviewing risk and control self-assessment (RCSA)
  • Experience developing risk measures to quantify risk levels such as key risk indicators (KRIs,) key performance indicators (KPIs,) or early warning indicators (EWIs)
  • Experience managing loss events and developing or challenging action plans associated with those events
  • Ability to be flexible, multitask, and re-prioritize work as the needs of the business change
  • Excellent communication (verbal, written and listening) – must be able to effectively communicate with all levels
  • Skilled knowledge with the following technology tools: RiskWorks or other Governance Risk and Control (“GRC”) systems; Visio; Microsoft Teams; SharePoint; and Excel
